I. Love. Birthdays. I think that because I have a summer birthday and I never got to have a party in class growing up, I've become like that kid who isn't allowed to watch TV at home so when they go to their friends' houses, you can't pull them away from Nickelodeon. Combine that with being a twin and having to share my birthday every year and I'm a goner.
I love my friends birthdays, I love my birthday, I love my parents' birthday, I love my brother's birthday ( to be fair that means I doubly love my own), Jesus's birthday is my favorite day of the year, I love buying presents, I love birthday parties (I ESPECIALLY love surprise birthday parties, I transform into that insane Kristen Wiig SNL skit character who gets too excited about surprises to be a person anymore and basically has a meltdown in anticipation) I love the birthday cake emoji, I just love birthdays.
Now that I have friends and family living in all parts of the country that I don't get to see, I usually have to settle for just a birthday post. What does a birthday post really mean? Is it an excuse to post a cute picture of yourself but still look like you're a nice person who has friends by tacking a HBD onto the caption? Or is it a legitimate way to celebrate your friends and family? There are so many options for making a birthday post, you need to ask yourself a few questions.
1. Where will you be making this post? Instagram is usually for your best friends and family while a Facebook post can be a casual friendship. You can also do that thing were you post an Instagram to every social media you have, this really sends a HAPPY BIRTHDAY message. There is always the classic "Happy Birthday!" Facebook post. Exclamation mark or no punctuation at all? Endless combinations
2. The next big question is to be funny or sentimental. I usually take the funny approach because I think it's just more fun. But I also like to throw in something sentimental because I care about whoever I'm posting for and they should know that. While I'm not personally a fan of the paragraph declarations of love, if that's how you feel go for it.
So how many is too many birthday posts? I'm honestly not sure but I also can say that I don't care. Birthdays are the best day of the year to show your appreciate for friends, your family, your dog or whoever's birthday you figure out it is. For example today is Sean Bean's birthday!! And I say CONGRATS on being alive!! I'm sorry if I get annoying with too many posts please bear with me and keep in mind that I just really love birthdays.
PS guys my birthday is on July 10th
