Goo Goo Dolls

The Goo Goo Dolls are an iconic American rock band that has been around since the 80's. The chances are pretty high that you've heard (and probably sang along to) their songs before. Even though some hit songs like "Iris," "Slide," and "Name" topped the charts over 20 years ago, they're still making music. I was lucky enough to attend one of their concerts this summer. It was such an amazing experience to hear some of my favorite songs performed live. Often times when listening to songs, we don't specifically listen to the lyrcs. We hear the way the words and music sound together. The Goo Goo Dolls' lyrics are so beautiful and relatable. When listening to them, you'll realize how they sing the words your heart and mind wish you could say. Here are 11 of the greatest quotes from their songs:

1. "And I don't want the world to see me, cause I don't think that they'd understand. When everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am." -Iris

"Iris," one of the Goo Goo Dolls' most well-known songs, was originally written for the movie City of Angels, but then also appeared on the album Dizzy Up The Girl. Whether you're struggling to be accepted in your family or community, or you're not quite sure who you really are yourself, this song really touches us all.

2. "Every breath's a moment, every moment is a chance to live again." -Souls in the Machine

This song is from their newest album, Boxes, which was just released in May 2016. It's such a motivational song. Keep trying and never give up on your goals. You have the power to change your life and the world you live in.

3. "Your words can lift me up or crush me to dust again. Can't tell if we are flying or falling to the end." -The Pin

Also from their most recent album, this song is definitely my favorite. If you haven't already heard it, please press play. This quote is exactly what you should tweet when your crush is giving you mixed signals.

4. "Staring down the hole inside me, looking in the mirror, making peace with the enemy." -So Alive

This song was the first single released from their new album. This quote truly recognizes the idea that our worst enemy should be yourself. Don't compete against others until you be focus on improving yourself first.

5. "Don't tell me how it feels, I'll find it on my own." -So Alive

This quote is also from the previous song. When everyone you know is always having crazy, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, it's normal to get a little jealous. It's not enough just to hear their stories. You want to feel alive too.

6. "I keep on looking but something's always missing. I keep on looking for something bigger than me...Yeah we're all just looking for something, something to believe in." -Caught In The Storm

This song was released in 2013 on their album titled Magnetic. Anyone could relate to these words. Do you ever feel like you need something more? We need something to believe in, to look forward to, and to hold on to hope for. Don't settle. There's always something better out there.

7. "The end of fear is where we begin." -Let Love In

Also the title of the album, "Let Love In" was the first song I ever heard by the Goo Goo Dolls. Everyone gets scared and nervous sometimes. It is important remember that it's really hard to improve yourself and avoid fear at the same time. It's where your life starts.

8. "A thousand other boys could never reach you. How could I have been the one?" -Black Balloon

From the album Dizzy Up The Girl, this song is actually about a woman being addicted to heroin, and her lover is trying to save her. When you listen to this specific line in a different context, it could relate to a man wondering how, out of all of the other men, the girl chose him.

9. "I thought I lost you somewhere, but you were never really ever there at all." -Here Is Gone

From their seventh album titled Gutterflower, these lyrics can often be seen used in quotes and images. This one is for anyone who has ever been betrayed or left in the shadows by someone you though you were close to. If they leave you hanging, they probably never cared.

10. "A life you don't live is still lost. So stand on the edge with me, hold back your fear and see, nothing is real 'til it's gone." -Before It's Too Late

This song originally appeared in the Transformers movie, and then later on in the Goo Goo Dolls' album, Greatest Hits Volume One: The Singles. It relates back to the lyrics about fear in "Let Love In." This quote also mentions nothing being real until it is gone. This could be about an opportunity that you did not take advantage of until you couldn't, but there are many other meanings.

11. "Come to me with secrets bare, I'll love you more so don't be scared." -Come To Me

This song, also from the album Magnetic, has such beautiful lyrics. To me, it means that you shouldn't be worried about keeping your secrets from loved ones. They will most likely find your 'flaws' beautiful.

If you don't think the Goo Goo Dolls are both musical and lyrical geniuses by now, then you should probably listen to these songs again.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
