Not only is it Thanksgiving and Christmas season, it's also Big/Little season —the time where many sorority girls are crafting and creating for their new littles and the new members are constantly on the watch for who their Big may be. It's a crazy time of the year where school is in full swing and you often find yourself spending most of your time crafting for your Little's basket instead of doing you're homework, but it's completely okay. It is so rewarding and heart warming to see your Little get her basket and post about it on social media. It's fun to make social media pages for them and to give them hints without them knowing who you actually are. From the outside looking in, people may not understand why we get so excited about Big/Little reveal, but it is simply just fun and exciting. As a Big, you are becoming a role model to another sister in your sorority and it is an everlasting bond. It is part of the sorority experience, and a special one at that.
So for all you girls who are currently prepping, crafting, setting up, hinting or if you have already passed the season, you'll be able to relate to this Big/Little season list.
1. Saving up all your money that you earn over the summer to prepare for Big/Little season
You already know that you're going to need money for the gifts, crafts and other goodies that you are going to spoil your Little with. Majority, if not all, of every single paycheck you make over the summer goes into your Little fund, and you're completely okay with it.
2. When the new pledge class comes in, you're already searching for the perfect Little
So many new members, so many choices. You may have a girl you had a really great connection with when going through the recruitment process or you be searching for the one. Every time the new members are around, you are constantly on guard and are trying to get to know as many girls as possible to find your Little.
3. You grow impatient waiting to find out who your Little is
Waiting to find out which new member you are going to call Little is nerve racking. You want to know who you got asap so that you can start planning and crafting. Having to wait over the summer was long enough!
4. But when you do find out who your little is, you are so excited to begin the process and to welcome them into your family
Finding out who your little is exciting because not only do you finally know who you're paired with it, but at this point, Big/Little season has begun. Now that you know who you have, you can begin to customize your baskets, crafts and goodies to fit what your Little loves and what her interests are.
5. Getting even more excited when you begin collecting the supplies necessary for your Little baskets
You need all the necessities: canvases, wood letters, sweet treats, candles, nail polish, magazines, their favorite drink, all the sorority shirts that you can get your hands on, glitter, paint, shirts for reveal, the list goes on and on.
6. Pinterest gives you some really great ideas, but you also come up with some cute DIY ideas that are amazing
Pinterest is the first place you go to seek out cute Big/Little crafts, and you probably already have a whole board dedicated to crafts for your Little. There are various canvas, paddles and smaller craft ideas all dedicated to your Little. However, don't doubt your crafty abilities. You probably also have some really great ideas already in your mind!
7. Glitter, glitter and more glitter
If your Little is into glitter, than you will probably have glitter all over you, your house, your clothes, in your hair and just in every place you look. No matter how much you clean up the mess you made, the glitter just doesn't disappear. In fact, everyday you find more glitter in the weirdest places around your house. But hey, at least all your crafts for your Little look beautiful!
8. Making a social media page for your Little
Let the games begin! You've officially made a Twitter, Facebook or Instagram page all dedicated to your Little where you can post embarrassing old pictures of her (we all have those right?), give her hints and just get to know her a little bit better without her knowing who you are. But be careful, she may catch on to who you are sooner than you would like her too.
9. Juggling school and Big/Little Week
Usually, Big/Little season falls right in the middle of the school year, which means midterms. Trying to juggle school and prepping for the week full of baskets can leave you with very little sleep and a lot of stress, but you push through because in the end you know it's going to be all worth it.
10. Having to act really cool whenever you see your little in public so you don't spill the beans
Whenever you see your Little at any sorority related event or around campus, you try to act normal and try not to run up to her screaming, "I'M YOUR BIG!" The impulse to do so kills you and you always wonder if she knows who you are.
11. Always telling her through social media that you can't wait to add another one to the family
You can't wait to expand the family and add another branch to the tree, and you know your Little is going to make an amazing addition to the family.
12. Looking at your bank account and seeing how much money you've spent
All the money that you have saved up over the summer to prepare for this season is now suddenly all gone. You start resorting to cheap food to get by in order to give your Little the best.
13. When you see what other Bigs are going for their Littles, you can't help but try to top it
You want to give your Little the best and when you see what other people have planned for their Littles you can't help but kick it up a notch. Plus, their ideas can generate more ideas for your own Little. You want your Little's basket to look the best that it can be, and you want her to love it.
14. Planning the perfect reveal outfit is harder than picking your formal outfit
Do you stick with your family theme or do you something different? There are just so many different options, a Beyonce theme, a theme based off of a TV show, superheros or you can make something completely from scratch. It has to be absolutely perfect, and you have to make sure the family has matching outfits and you have to have an Instagram caption that goes with your theme all ready for reveal day.
15. But when your Little walks into the door, you realize how grateful you are to be a Big
Finally, the wait is over and you can finally call your Little yours. All the work was worth it and you know that you have officially become a Big to a Little who is going to look up to you and cherish you forever.
