It's finally here! You're sitting in Bryant-Denny Stadium with over 3,000 other girls and it's in your hand. It takes everything in you not to secretly open it when nobody is looking, but you just sit there in agony and wait. In just a few short minutes you'll open the envelope you've been holding onto so tight and become part of a new family and sisterhood like no other! Here in this moment is what makes the eight long days of sprinting from house to house, standing in the sweltering Alabama heat all day long and the hundreds of dollars spent on clothes and accessories worth it. Thousands of girls are sitting right beside you with the same butterflies in their stomach. Finally, you hear the recruitment team tell you to open your envelopes. Everyone is running to their house screaming, crying, hugging each other and full of excitement!
"What in the world are you talking about and what did you just describe," you may ask. Well folks, this is Bid Day. And not just any bid day - University of Alabama Bid Day. You can ask anyone and most likely not one person will disagree with you that UA does greek life bigger and better than anyone else. It's like no other.

The feelings that go through each girl in this short amount of time are overwhelming - the nerves that race through your body waiting to open your card, the excitement you feel when you read those Greek letters you now get to wear and be a part of, and the love you automatically feel when meeting all your new sisters. There's no better feeling than this.
To add to what has been the best day of your life, fraternity boys will be coming up to you with roses in hand. They'll get down on one knee and hand you a rose in their most smooth-talking voice they can do (it's kind of funny tbh).
Yes, the pictures taken and roses given to you are great, but that's not the best part of the day at all. The best part is opening up that bid day card and reading your invitation to be a part of a sisterhood made just for you. The best part of the day is knowing that from here on out, you've got sisters that will support you, love you, and be there for you in and through everything. That when you get homesick, you've got 300 other sisters to go to that'll make you feel better. When something bad happens in life, you've got friends to support you and lift you up. When you're struggling, you've got sisters that will help guide you and hold your hand along the way. And when you want to celebrate, you've got more than enough girls to go out with.
What a time to be alive.
