Most girls have dreamed about their future “prince charming.” They have had a list in their head of the perfect guy from the moment they watched their first princess movie as a little girl. We have high expectations, which is perfectly acceptable. People tell us all the time that our lists are unrealistic, but I’m telling you that it’s OK to have standards that you want your dream guy to meet. In order to have a realistic checklist for your future prince charming, you need to look in one place: The Bible.
Look for someone who is selfless.
"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." Philippians 2:4
Look for someone who is generous.
"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” Acts 20:35
Look for someone who finds joy in the Lord.
"But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever they do prospers." Psalm 1:2-3
Look for someone that shows fruit of a relationship with God.
"In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James 2:17
Look for someone who is patient.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
Look for someone who respects authority.
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother — which is the first commandment with a promise — so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-3
Look for someone who is pure at heart.
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 4:23
Look for someone who is not easily angered.
"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." James 1:19
Look for someone who is humble.
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves." Philippians 2:3
Look for someone who is a leader.
"Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12
Look for someone who loves everyone.
"But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked." Luke 6:35
