So I am sure that everyone has seen Dove's beautiful vs average campaign to inspire women. If you haven't, then watch the link to the video at the end of the article!
The summer camp (Camp Balcones Springs- AKA the greatest place on earth) that I have had the pleasure of being a camper at, and for the past 4 years, a counselor at shows this video to all the girl campers after they have their women's dinner. I think that this is so amazing and so good for girls to see at all ages because their confidence is so fragile through their preteen and teen years.
Year after year I watch this video and feel sad that there are so many people out there that don't feel good about themselves. Yes we all have our ups and downs about how we feel about ourselves (myself included) but that doesn't mean that we aren't beautiful in our own way.
I also think that it is super important to remember that being beautiful does not just mean looks. The best form of beauty comes rom the inside. You are beautiful when you are being happy, silly, or just being yourself. I know that I always admired the girls who were comfortable with themselves and brushed off judgements like it was nothing when I was growing up.
I always wanted to be like them but I was insecure about it until I reached high school. Adrienne had just started the tradition of watching the video after women's dinner at camp and it was just like something in my head clicked and then all of a sudden I could care less of what people thought about me. I let my weirdness shine and thats pretty much how I made friends!
When you are comfortable with yourself you are beautiful and people are drawn to you because of your confidence. As cliche as it sounds, everyone is beautiful in their own way. Never forget that.
