Poetry On Odyssey: Beyond The Screen

When you don't get a lot of likes,

Maybe your head fills with doubt.

And you worry about the numbers

Day in, day out.

But the numbers that matter

Are the ones we can't count,

Because the authenticity of your smile

Doesn't have an exact amount.

Let the numbers be numbers

And let society be free

From this door of validation

Where Instagram likes are the only key.

It makes me sad that people only feel pretty

The moment after a "One...Two...Three!"

Because the beauty you hold fills a lifetime

While a camera only has one second to see.

So who cares about the likes?

Don't let your head fill with doubt.

No need to worry about the numbers

Day in, day out.

Because the numbers that truly matter

Are the ones we can't count.

Beyond the screen, I promise,

The beauty you hold is an unlimited amount.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
