14 Things Better Than Politics

I don't know about you, but I am at a point where I am completely over hearing about the election. So, as a friendly message to those lovely people who insist upon having a full-on debate about politics, I post this list of better ways to fill your time.

1. Cat videos.

Not only are they adorable, they can make even the grouchiest people smile and/or pee their pants from laughing.

2. Memes.

Yes, I realize not all memes are quality. Still, you can always rely on Google to bring up some funny results.

3. Random YouTube videos.

Personally, I enjoy anything nonsensical. These are the videos you see when you suddenly find yourself on the weird side of YouTube.

4. Food.

I don't think I need to elaborate on this one.

5. Music.

It doesn't have to be the most popular or widely listened to genre in the world *cough cough* pop *cough* *cough* but music in general does a lot to take your mind off things. Music is a positive force, and it definitely helps to utilize it.

6. Netflix.

My roommate promptly screamed at me until I agreed to give a shout-out to "Lost". I've got to commend her enthusiasm, at least. Personally, I prefer "American Horror Story," but that's just me.

7. Going out with friends.

Whatever the reason or activity, this is a great way to kick back and forget about the stress of the world. Go bowling, go ice skating, just get out there and don't stay cooped up inside too long!

8. Sleep.

Sometimes we just don't get enough of it. Take a little nap, you've earned it.

9. That schoolwork you've pushed back till the last minute.

Yeah, I've been there, and I know how easy it is to procrastinate. So click off Facebook for a minute and get cracking on that paper you totally forgot was due next week. Whoops.

10. Video games.

This option probably doesn't appeal to everyone out there, but if you have some pent-up rage over this election, this can help you channel it in a different way.

11. Something creative.

Even if you don't consider yourself a creative mastermind, doing something artsy relaxes you and makes time go a lot quicker. Draw, listen to/make music, paint, dance... whatever it is, just give it a try.

12. Movie marathon with friends (see number 6).

This is a super common occurrence for my roommates and I. We have a great time watching or making fun of terrible horror movies, and have even had a Disney princess night.

13. Narwhals.

They're just cute and amazing. You can never be upset when a narwhal is near.

14. Changing the subject for once.

Just talk about something else. To be perfectly honest, I am not the only person that is tired of hearing about politics and having to listen to people restate their opinions about ten times. Please, just give the rest of us a break. Instead of complaining and being angry, go and use that motivation and drive to do something helpful. It's a new day, which means it's time to leave all of the "what if's" behind. Now, go ride on a narwhal to friendship movie night with tons of food and sleeping in late!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
