An Open Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend

An Open Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend

To my Long Distance Best Friend,

I never thought that four months ago would be the last time we say goodbye for a while. Can you believe it has been two years since the first time we met? Going into college I never would have thought I would find people I would actually be friends with forever let alone a best friend. College are seriously the best years of life, and it is so rare and amazing to find a best friend to share it with.

Now that you moved back home I’m not sure what I’m actually going to do without you. I keep thinking you’ll be right down the hall instead of a twenty hour drive away. Just about this time a year ago It was 11pm on a Saturday, and the guy I was seeing said it was over and that he never wanted to see me again. I was devastated. It didn’t matter what you were doing you ran right over to hold me as the tears rushed down. Always knowing what to say to make me feel beautiful even when I didn’t feel good enough.

I’ll miss going out anywhere and people would refer to us as the “Duo.” Yeah, we were pretty unstoppable. When we would go anywhere without each other someone would come up to us and ask where our partner in crime was because the scene didn’t feel the same. I miss twinning with you at parties and creating alter egos so guys wouldn’t try to friend us on Facebook. If that’s wrong I don’t want to be right. I miss having a close friend group that even when the party would end, we would stay up and just hang out. All the times we would be the first ones to get football tickets even when it was 100 degrees out. Or the time we camped out, and it was freezing. No one likes football as much as you, and the games won’t be the same. The sushi dates and the ice cream trips. Yeah okay we like food a lot. All the times we would stay in on the weekends together or go to the movies. I fell asleep in the theater everytime. All of our crazy vegas trips. Spending Valentines day together because we knew we would have more fun going on a date with each other. That one time we met Stephen Coletti from Laguna beach and being completely starstruck. Yeah, sometimes we lived like celebrities.

Always feeling like apart of each other's family even when ours were far away. Meeting each others friends from home and loving them just as much. Here's to all the laughs and all the tears. All of the concerts we went to. Staying up way too late when we had to work super early. We would constantly talk about the annoying boys from home that kept popping up into to our lives always being there for each other even when life felt it was at its worse. That one time that you literally yelled at a guy I was seeing telling him he didn’t deserve me. A lot of friends wouldn’t do that. You would never let me settle for anybody.

I’m so thankful we can still talk on a weekly basis, and I can’t wait for you to visit and me to come to you. I wouldn’t have been able to take on college out of state without you. I can’t wait till we start families of our own, and are able to tell our kids about all our adventures, and they’ll obviously be best friends. We have so many more adventures to look forward too in the future. There are so many things I could say, and I so wish you would come back, and we would only be seconds away whenever we need each other. I know we’ll be friends forever. I love you so much.

XOXO,

Your Long Distance Best Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
