Because of the huge blizzard that passed by recently, I've noticed quite a few sneezy, coughing, congested kids around campus. To help myself and those in need of a quick remedy, here is a list of both home and over the counter remedies for the common cold and its many symptoms.

1. Drink orange juice.

Vitamins will legitimately save you right now, and drinking orange juice is one of the easiest ways to get a quick burst of them. Text your roommate to bring you OJ so you don't have to get out of bed, my next point.

2. Get rest.

Your body heals its self most effectively when it's resting. The best thing you can do for your body, whether you're sick or not, is sleep an appropriate amount. Use your cold as a reason to be extra lazy! Curl up and take a nap and you'll feel a little better in no time!

3. Take medicine.

As obvious as that may seem, there are some people like me who refuse to take it. To them I say: stop being so stubborn. Take a tablespoon of cough syrup and you'll at least be able to get through your next few hours without feeling miserable.

4. Gargle

One of the things my mom used to make me do was gargle warm water and apple cider vinegar because it helps with sore throats and also with congestion. She herself couldn't actually do it because the taste of vinegar is so gross. If you can't stand the vinegar, use warm water and salt (preferably sea salt). Sea salt is very helpful as a healing agent. Both of these tricks help sooth the throat.

5. Honey

Have a spoonful of honey. This trick is also one to help sooth your sore throat. Another idea is to put honey in a warm cup of tea, because who wouldn't want a nice cup of tea? The tea will also help to relax you and sooth your throat.

6. Lemon juice showers

Before you shower, put a lemon in the corner of the shower, or squeeze lemon juice around the shower. When you shower, make sure it's hot enough to make steam. A lot of people hear about this and say that it's nonsense, but I've tested it multiple times and have asked my friends to try the same. It always worked.

7. The naughty

One of the most tried and true ways to relieve your symptoms is through various sexual acts. If you and your partner are both under the weather, the best thing to do is f*ck it out, according to my roommate.

Being sick is one of the more annoying parts of life, but with simple tricks like this you can feel better in just a few days. Just make sure to stay warm and sleep when you aren't sick. Do what you can to avoid things that lower your immune system, and you won't even need these tips in the first place!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
