As we are only 2 weeks into our new year, 2017 has already proven to be a year of excitement in pop culture, politics, and sports. Here are just a few of the best things that we have seen so far in 2017.
President Obama’s Farewell
After eight great years of presidency, President Obama delivered his last speech. It was nothing short of what we expected. As he implants himself into the history books, President Obama states, “America is not the project of any one person. Because the single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes, We Can.’” He also delivered a heartfelt ‘thank you’ spiel to his wife, that America loved. As he exits the Whitehouse, he leaves with multiple accomplishments, and the hearts of many citizens.
Ed Sheeran Released Music
If you're like me, and love Ed Sheeran, then you were probably so pumped to hear this great news. As done in a way that only he can pull off, Ed Sheeran made his announcement on Instagram at 2am on New Years Day. Absolute legend. (Both new singles “Shape of You”, and “Castle on the Hill”, can be found on Spotify and Apple Music.)
Insane NFL Playoffs
It’s the playoffs, and that means we are gonna see some great football games. As the playoffs have proceeded through 2017, we’ve seen a crazy (but the usual) ‘Hail Mary’ from Aaron Rodgers, one of the most insane hits on a quarterback I have ever seen by Steelers LB Bud Dupree (on Matt Moore), and two rookie starters attempt to lead Dallas to a Super Bowl. Football fanatics have been truly blessed in 2017.
Chris Brown and Soulja Boy Beef
This is one of the funniest things I have seen in a while. After one rapper got mad at another for liking a picture on Instagram, arguments exploded all over twitter. Now, to solve their dispute, Soulja Boy and Chris Brown have agreed to have a legitimate fight. To make this even bigger, and funnier, boxing legend, Mike Tyson, will be training Chris Brown, and another legend, Floyd Mayweather, will join forces with Soulja Boy. This should be interesting people.
LA Chargers Release the Possible 'Worst Logo Ever'
Okay, so this is all over the place and very confusing. As the regular season ended, the Chargers organization announced the relocation from San Diego to LA. After, there was a blue and white logo released that honestly looked like a mix between the LA Dodgers logo and the Tampa Bay Lightning logo. This received a huge amount of criticism, and was an instant hit on Twitter.
Trump Roasts Meryl Streep On Twitter
During the Golden Globes ceremony, Meryl Streep gave a gutsy speech in which she fired shots at president-elect Trump. A day later, Donald reacted just as Donald would normally react by sending out a tweet stating: “Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a…..”. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is our future president…
