I've been obsessed with reading subreddits lately. Most of them are made up of the internet's stupidity, which is some of the best forms of comedy on the internet. While some subreddits can be so cringe-worthy to the point where they just make people uncomfortable, most subreddits are some of the funniest things that can be found on the internet. So, here's fifteen subreddits that everyone should check out to get a laugh.
1. r/oldpeoplefacebook
Seeing people that are forty or older attempt to use social media is already funny within itself, but r/oldpeoplefacebook has some of the funniest moments of our grandparents attempting to use Facebook, from asking how to unfriend someone to writing reviews of stores and restaurants directly on their walls. This is one subreddit that anyone can get a good chuckle out of.
2. r/insanepeoplefacebook
r/insanepeoplefacebook is kind of like r/oldpeoplefacebook but with people that need to be institutionalized. While the elderly using Facebook and failing is because technology is rapidly evolving and it's difficult to catch up, the insane people of Facebook know how to use a computer (or at least know how to use Google), and do some basic research and just refuse to. This is one subreddit that will make you feel a little bit smarter.
3. r/vaxxhappened
Everyone loves to make fun of the flawed logic of the anti-vax community, so having an entire subreddit dedicated to these knuckleheads is meme heaven. While many of the r/vaxxhappened posts can also be seen in r/insanepeoplefacebook, you'll get a bigger variety of anti-vax memes and jokes that will keep you laughing for the rest of the day.
4. r/antiMLM
Have you ever gotten messages from people from your high school, or even complete strangers, on social media asking you to try their products or join their team? If so, then you are not alone. r/antiMLM is filled with stories and screenshots of pyramid schemes from various people and companies trying to get people to buy their products. This subreddit can be a constant reminder to not fall for these scams when they come up.
5. r/choosingbeggars
We're all familiar with giant corporations taking advantage of employees and other people, but when regular people try to take advantage of small artists or businesses to get free stuff, you get r/choosingbeggars. We all heard the story of artists taking commissions and one pleb asking them to draw something for them for free and that they'll "pay them with exposure", even though they should be well aware that exposure does not pay for rent or groceries. Now there's a subreddit for those artists and more small businesses being taken advantage of for them to laugh at.
6. r/delusionalartists
On the opposite end of the spectrum, r/delusionalartists feature people attempting to sell their artwork that looks like a child drew it, or decent artists attempting to sell their artwork for unreasonable prices that your average person today cannot afford. While asking for free art is beyond unacceptable, artists realizing their worth is also important. While most artists out there do understand their work and will charge reasonable prices for commissions, we still have that vocal minority of entitled people that can't draw for sh*t but still expect to be paid for their art.
7. r/niceguys and r/nicegirls
I put these two in the same spot because they're pretty much the same subreddit but with the genders swapped. r/niceguys and r/nicegirls have some of the best (and cringiest) moments of all the entitled ladies and gents that think people owe them a relationship because they were nice to them. Most of them tend to be extremely catty and have no problem with putting others down for their own personal gain. But what happens when those nice guys and nice girls meet each other, start a relationship and get married? You get...
8. r/entitledparents
That's right, you get r/entitledparents, the parents we try to learn from and NOT be like. You know that one parent that will threaten the coach if their kid does not get a perfect score during an athletic competition, or will threaten the director if their kid does not get a lead role in the school's musical? That's what r/entitledparents is in a nutshell, parents with over-inflated egos that will go out of their way to make sure their kid gets what they want, and in turn, their kid will turn into a spoiled brat when they grow up because of it (wait, isn't that just my hometown in a nutshell?).
9. r/gatekeeping
From fandoms, to the weather, to family cultures, to parenting, to even drugs, r/gatekeeping is proof that nothing is safe from being one-upped by someone. No one enjoys people telling them that there are people that have it worse than them when they are having a rough day, so r/gatekeeping makes fun of their pathetic attempts to gatekeep everything under the sun. It's also pretty shocking how many mothers there are when it comes to gatekeeping (actually, I'm not that surprised because almost everyone I know that has children will say to someone "you don't know what tired is until you become a mom" or something similar).
10. r/lewronggeneration
I already wrote an article about these types of people several months ago, but I have not been through the r/lewronggeneration subreddit until very recently. While most of these posts have to do with music, many of it has to do with movies, videos games, television, and other things that nostalgia buffs are into. But the nostalgia-blinded people aren't in this subreddit, this is the subreddit filled with 12 to 14-year-olds who think they're so unique because they listen to Queen. This is one group of youngsters that are fun to laugh at.
11. r/notlikeothergirls
r/notlikeothergirls is another big example of girls putting down other girls to make themselves feel superior. While I would admit, I was one of those girls back in school that would brag about how much I'm "not like other girls", nowadays seeing these posts gives me war flashbacks to those days when I thought I was so quirky and unique. Not only that most of the posts are pretty misogynistic and says how every girl is the same, but it's also pretty contradictory, considering the fact that a lot of girls say how they're not like other girls, so wouldn't that make them, like other girls?
12. r/im14andthisisdeep
This is a subreddit that can be found pretty much all over Tumblr. r/im14andthisisdeep is filled with lots of posts with "deep" messages that have black and white filters on them to make them look more "poetic". In reality, most of these posts were made by teenagers that are trying to look "deep" when the messages in the posts say nothing about society at all. This is another subreddit I was guilty of being like when I was in school, and now that I'm an adult, I can see how much cringe these posts are.
13. r/woosh
We all have that one friend that never gets any of your jokes and everything just flies right over their heads, and r/woosh is the subreddit that puts all those people together. We all get annoyed when one of our friends has to explain a joke to us, so getting a good laugh at these people can make you feel less annoyed the next time someone kills a joke by explaining it to everyone.
14. r/iamverysmart
If the "Rick & Morty" fanbase was a subreddit, they would be r/iamverysmart. The Dunning Kruger effect is a cognitive bias where one thinks their skills and abilities are better than they actually are, and everyone in this subreddit has a severe case of the Dunning Kruger effect. While they say that their IQ is above average, chances are their IQ is actually below average. This subreddit is a reminder to all of us that if you have to announce how smart you are, you are not as smart as you think you are.
15. r/boneappletea
Typos happen all the time, but when someone misspells something so badly that you cannot understand how they got to that conclusion, you get r/boneappletea. Some examples can include the above sam and ella (salmonella), die of beaties (diabetes), cloister phobic (claustrophobic), meaty oaker (mediocre), and my personal favourite, lack toast and tall of rent (lactose intolerant). This subreddit can be a good laugh for any bad day.
