Since it's been a month since Christmas break, we are all missing home-cooked meals right about now. Instead of settling for McClurg, try branching out, and try foods that remind you of your favorite comfort foods. Check out these restaurants in Chattanooga for some ideas.
Mt. Vernon
From fried green tomatoes to chicken liver and fried shrimp, this restaurant has a plethora of classic southern dishes. Located at the foot of Lookout Mountain, this restaurant has a gorgeous view to compliment your meal. They also specialize in slow-roasted turkey and dressing and amaretto cream pie. After you go here, you have to enjoy the nearby attractions available—like Ruby Falls and Raccoon Mountain Caverns.
Tupelo Honey Cafe
Tupelo Honey's "fresh, Southern, scratch-made" menu features unique options like fried okra, "Shoo Mercy" sweet potato pancakes and a "Southern Belle" grilled cheese and soup combo. You can't go wrong with whatever delicious food you choose because the chefs ensure freshness, "homey," melt-in-your-mouth food. Tupelo Honey has been around for 15 years and combines pure ingredients with Southern cultures to provide its customers with a meal that they cannot forget.
Champy's Famous Fried Chicken
Champy's has succulent fried chicken that should be tasted by all fried chicken connoisseurs. You can get your chicken in the form of wings, livers, tenders, in a basket, on a stick, white meat, dark meat, etc. The most important choice that you make is that you get it fried and with a tall glass of your favorite soda pop or sweet tea. Compliment your chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans or slaw. Finally, end your classic Southern meal with one of Champy's homemade cakes or pies. Be sure to Instagram a photo of your meal to show off the wonderful meal you just devoured.
Stay tuned for next week's article, where I will recommend my other three favorite Chattanooga restaurants that are hard to beat for a home cooked meal.
