Potsdam, NY is a very small town located in the North Country. When you tell people that you go to school up here the typical response is "don't you get bored?" or "is there anything fun to do up there?" One of the benefits of a small town like Potsdam, NY is that there are a lot of local restaurants that are to die for. It is very easy to go broke because of all the good places to eat in town. I have written a list of what I think are the top places to eat. If you have yet to try them, I highly recommend doing so!

1. Little Italy

Little Italy offers everything from slices of pizza with garlic knots to lava cakes and wraps. It is inexpensive and offers good portions. This place is perfect if you're in a rush, and is a good place for a sit down meal as well. There is also some history along with Little Italy; it is the oldest standing sandstone structure in Potsdam.

2. The Bagelry

The Bagelry is the oldest bagel and coffee shop in St. Lawrence County. This is also a place where you can either sit down and eat or take it to go. The have a large variety of bagels that are made from scratch. The menu seems endless.

3. Cheryl's Diner

This place is on the outskirts of the town and epitomizes the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover." They have the best home-cooked food, and for a really great price. This is by far my favorite place to get breakfast in Potsdam-- it's always my go-to.

4. Hot Tamale

Hot Tamale is one of the newer places on this list. It is perfect for sit-in meals, pick up and delivery. Hot Tamale is a casual Mexican restaurant. A fun thing about this place is that they offer the Hot Tamale Challenge. You have to eat 4 massive burritos that weigh a total of 5 and a half pounds in 40 minutes. If you successfully complete the challenge, your name will be posted on the Wall of Fame!

5. Chilly Delight

Chilly Delight is a self- serve frozen yogurt place. They offer a large selection of flavors and toppings. This place is perfect for your all year round sweet tooth kicks.

6. Maxfield's

This is the place to go if you want a nice, upscale dinner. They have a patio next to the river that you can eat on and inside they have additional seating, as well as a bar. The food is delicious and great quality.

7. Between The Buns

Between The Buns is known for their variety of burgers. The food is really good and the prices are fair. One downside to this place is that the service is hit or miss.

8. Cantina

Cantina is a sit- down, Mexican style restaurant. The food is very good, but the famous "fishbowls" are better. The thing I like the most about Cantina is that they offer rooftop seating.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
