I love college. It is absolutely freeing, full of independence, with a side of a fun social life. I am finally living on my own, so to speak, and I find that both comforting and sad. It’s really fun to live on your own because you get to live your own life on your own schedule. Yet, I still find myself getting homesick every now and then. This weekend I had the chance to come home and that warm sense of comfort spread all over me. Here are the best parts about coming home:
Home-cooked meals
You definitely saw this one coming, didn’t you? Well you’re right, home-cooked meals made by my parents are at the top of this list. My mom is the greatest baker I have ever known, and whenever I come home she is always baking something. This past weekend it was homemade chicken noodle soup, banana chocolate chip pancakes, and apple crumb pie. The thought of going back to dining hall food is definitely not on my mind.
Driving
I don’t miss my car necessarily, I just miss driving in general. I miss sitting in the car with the windows down and just going for a drive through town. There is nothing better than singing in the car with my favorite people from home. Long drives to the beach are possibly my favorite drive to do while at home.
Family-time
I'll be the first to admit it: I get homesick. I love hanging out with my family, just lounging on the couch or driving to the beach. My mom is my best friend, so any chance that I get to hang out with her is the best. We can laugh about silly things and catch up with each other about everything that is going on in our lives.
My house
When I think of home, I think of my house. The familiar smell that welcomes me every time I come home is so comforting and relaxing. I can lounge on multiple couches, my bed, and my parents' bed. I also can raid the entire refrigerator. I just love coming home and being totally relaxed. The best part about my house is seeing my puppy. I miss having a fluffy puppy to pet when I get stressed.
People
The best part about coming home is seeing the people. People from home are the best because there is comfort in knowing that those relationships haven't changed. It's like college never happened and we're all just picking up from where we left off. These are people who have grown with me since I was little and there is a feeling of home within those friendships.
