If you're anything like my friends and I, at-home hair dye kits conjure up some pretty graphic memories of hair-dos past we'd like to pretend never happened. The flawless women on the cover of seductive glossy boxes looked so great, and how could such a tiny box do so much damage, anyway?

Every last trace of photographic proof has been erased from cyberspace, but the emotional baggage is still with us. For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was).
