There is no need to make a huge, challenging resolution for the new year, that you will end up giving up on anyways. Instead, pick one or two really simple, but beneficial, goals that you can conquer. It might just feel like another day, but January 1st is a chance to become a better you in the new year.

Make something positive come out of 2019.

1. Drink more water.

Drinking water is so important and you don't even have to drink that much. 64 oz is the average amount but depending on your height and weight it could be even less. Find a water calculator online and see what the right amount is for you.

2. Stretch everyday.

Stretching is commonly overlooked but it is just as important as working out. Take 20 minutes every morning to do a few stretches and over time this will reduce pain and injury.

3. Watch TV only every other day, or less.

4. Limit your time on social media.

Depending on how much time you spend on your phone, try and cut that time in half. There is a whole world out there that you are missing while you are staring at a screen.

5. Volunteer at the local animal shelter every other week.

Volunteering is such a great way to help your community which benefits the organization and you. Helping animals is very rewarding and taking just an hour out of your day and volunteering your time is easier than you think.

6. Start taking vitamins everyday.

Vitamin C, multivitamins, magnesium, omega 3, etc. Starting a daily routine of vitamins is a simple thing you can do that will add up over time and improve your health.

7. Make more time to call people you don't see a lot.

Whether it is your parents or a friend that moved away, make time to call the people that you love and want to stay in contact with.

8. Limit eating out to once a week.

You will save money and home cooked meals are the healthier option.

9. Cut down on a bad habit.

Smoking, drinking, shopping, etc. Nothing negative will come from ending a bad habit.

10. Start saving money in a jar and don't take from it until the end of the year.

Think of something you really want or really want to do and save all year for it.

11. Use only green bags when shopping.

Leave them in your car or on your doorknob so you always remember to use them. They are better for reducing the amount of plastic being thrown away and they are sturdier so green bags will keep your products safer.

12. Compliment yourself everyday.

Make 2019 the year of self-love and make sure you remind yourself how amazing you are. Positive words can change your outlook on life.

13. Read a book instead of binging a TV show.

The hours we spend staring at the TV could be put into something better, like getting lost in a book.

14. Start taking the time to recycle.

It hardly takes any time at all to separate trash from recycling and it is so important for the environment.

15. Meal prep every week.

16. Donate old clothes and buy new ones.

New year, new you, new style.

17. Get a new job and try hard to excel at it.

18. Become more social.

When you get invited out, instead of just staying in, go out and meet people. Put yourself out there and do something you normally wouldn't.

19. Eat healthier.

You don't have to change your diet completely, just try and eat more fruits and vegetables instead of dairy and bread.

20. Walk more instead of driving.

If the place you want to go is walking distance, then just walk. Don't be lazy and get in the car. Of course that would be easier but walking is so good for your health and fresh air is good for the mind.

21. Make more "me" time.

Stop doing everything for other people. Make your own decisions and dedicate a lot of your free time to doing things you like and learning to be happy alone.

22. Spend more time outside.

23. Stop posting everything that you do.

Just be in the moment and try to break from the feeling of needing to tell everyone how your day is going.

24. Get into a routine.

Going to bed and waking up around the same time every day is really good for mental health and you will be able to be more productive.

25. Take more photos and make a photo book.

Instead of posting every picture you take, make a physical photo album that is only meant for you to enjoy.

26. Start a skin care routine.

27. Floss once a day.

Flossing every day is so easy and it will save you a lot of teeth pain in the future and is key for preventing captivities.

28. Stop wanting more things and appreciate what you have.

Look around and realize that you don't need anymore "things". We all want them but focus your time on more important things like the people in your life, instead of the things you don't have.

29. Take a bath once a week or more.

Baths are so relaxing and are very good for your muscles. Use Epsom salt and just soak in the bath once a week and you will have a more calm and focused mind.

30. Have a glass of wine every other night.

Wine is good for your heart, digestion and mind. Just have one glass every other night and see how this effects the way you feel day to day.

31. Work out for at least 30 minutes everyday.

You don't need to kill yourself in the gym to be physically fit. Just be active for 30 minutes every day and that's all your body needs to be strong and healthy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
