Now that the snow has melted and the beautiful summer weather has finally arrived, it’s time to grab your hiking shoes and go on an adventure. You don’t have to travel far to find some of the most beautiful views and challenging trails - they are right here in your very backyard! These are some of the most incredible hiking spots to connect with nature, take your dog for a walk, and breathe in some fresh air.
1. The Mohawk Trail in western Massachusetts has an epic view for all four seasons.
2. Mount Greylock offers diverse hiking options ranging from deep-woodland adventures to high summit peaks.
And if you want to spend more than one day, you can camp out there, too!
3. The Pine Hills are the place to be in Plymouth. This spot has lots of easier trails for beginners that the entire family can enjoy.
Pack some snacks and bring an inexperienced friend or the little ones in your family with you. Anyone can tag along for this one!
4. Skinner Mountain, more commonly known as Mount Holyoke in Hadley, is a mountain for more experienced hikers.
It’s a bit more of a challenge to get to the top, however, the view waiting for you there will surely not be a disappointment.
5. If you’re in search of less of high-range vertical slope, the coastal wetlands in Newburyport at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge are your best place to take a walk.
Take in the wildlife surrounding you - over 4,700 acres to be exact. Here you’ll find anything from beaches and sand dunes to cranberry bogs and salt water marshes.
6. Monument Mountain offers a wide, spacious view of the Southern Berkshire mountains.
Located in Great Barrington, there are many diverse trails ranging from easy to expert through the oak and white pine woodlands.
7. Located in Concord, North Bridge in Minute Man National Historic Park offers the best of both worlds - invigorating outdoor exercise and history of Massachusetts.
This location is unique and very cool, because it was where the first battle in the Revolutionary War occurred.
8. Carlisle offers a unique spot at Acorn Trail at Great Brook Farm State Park, where wide-open meadows and hills can be found to explore through the narrow, winding forest.
9. Brooks Woodland Preserve is over 13 miles of trails all around Petersham.
Spots of maidenhair ferns, preserved stone walls, and 19th-century farmhouses are hidden treasures you’ll come across throughout your adventure in the woods.
