A Thank You To My Brother From Another Mother

Dear Best Friend,

Thank you for being the greatest guy in the whole world. You are the one that I always come to for advice to get that "guy perspective" and you are always honest with me, no matter how upset it may make me in that moment. I know that you just want what's best for me.

Thank you for always being a shoulder to cry on. You know exactly what to do and say when I'm feeling anything but happy. You get me. You get me in a way that none of my girlfriends will ever get. We have a different bond, a special bond, that I am so unbelievably grateful for and will never let go of.

You're the guy that all of my boyfriends will always have to meet and deal with that fact that my best friend is a guy. The same goes for me with your girlfriends. They all better get used to me being a constant because I'm not going anywhere, no matter how jealous some of them may be. Don't worry, I'll always put them in their place, and I know you'll do the same for my boyfriends.

I know I can drive you crazy. I know I tend to come to you with the same problems and same situations, just with different players. I know that you'll tell me the same thing every time, but the truth is, I just need to always hear your words of wisdom and encouragement. It could be a simple "you deserve better," and it could speak volumes to me. Those three words coming from you mean the world to me because I know it's genuine.

That being said, thank you for being by my side since the day you were born. Being your best friend since birth has some responsibility to come with it, and I'm so glad that you're the one the universe paired me with. You bring nothing but light and positivity into my life, even when I feel like I am at my darkest, I always have you.

I am extremely blessed to have you as a best friend. I don't get to see you as much as I would like, but you are always there for me no matter the distance. Thank you for always being there for late night FaceTime calls when I'm having a mental breakdown, and for always being there to make me laugh. I seriously don't know how I got so lucky with you.

Thank you for being not just a best friend to me, but a brother. I can trust you with anything and everything. You deal with me, and that's enough for you to deserve an entire article dedicated to you. Thanks for being awesome, and for being you.

Love always,

Your Best Friend

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
