An Open Letter To My Best Friend's New Friends

To my best friend's new friends,

I’m sure you’ve heard about me, and I’m sure you’ve seen pictures of me on her social media when you first stalked her. I’m sure she’s told you stories of our summer adventures, and how whenever she hears Fergie, she thinks about them. I also know she can talk a lot, and she’s probably told you the same story multiple times. Just bear with her and smile because we both know she’s not very good at story telling. I also know it can get annoying hearing her talk about me so much because I feel the same way sometimes when she tells me about you all.

I see you in all of her pictures. You’re laughing, and it looks like you’re having a blast. Usually, I just like her pictures and move down my timeline, but when you’re in them, I pause. I try to figure you out with every new picture she posts. I discover more of your personality through her Snapchat stories and when you sneak your way into the screen when we FaceTime. However, no matter how much I try to figure you out, the truth is, I don’t know you. In my entire life, I’ve never been more jealous of someone I didn’t know until now. You see, you’re the one who gets to spend every day with her, now, like I did for the past 12 years. You’re the one who is just down the hall to comfort her when she’s upset. You’re the one who gets the pleasure of being her best friend every day.

The past four years, especially, we were attached at the hip, so it’s hard for me to see her make other friends. Don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t be happier seeing her have so much fun and making the most out of college. Here are a few things you need to know. She hates crying in front of people, so don’t make a big deal out of it if she sheds some tears. You should actually be honored because this means she trusts you. If she’s ever stressed out, go get her Chinese food and Ben & Jerry’s – it works every time. Being away from her family and friends kills her, even if she doesn’t always act like it. Do your absolute best to make her feel like she’s at home, even though, she’s hours away. If a boy ever breaks her heart, just keep her calm and call me; I’ll take care of that.

Most importantly, the one thing you need to know is you picked an amazing person to be your friend. She will do absolutely anything for you, but don’t use that to your advantage. She’ll gladly stay up all night with you and talk about your problems if that’s what you need. She’s selfless and will always put you before herself. Make sure you return the favor every now and then. I also want to thank you. Thank you for taking her under your wing. Going to different schools was the hardest thing we had to do. I’m thankful she found you to have fun with, make memories and enjoy this chapter of her life. Thank you for taking care of my best friend while I’m away. Hopefully, we will meet soon, but if not, I’ll see you at her wedding day one day as we both stand by her side.

Sincerely,

Her forever friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
