A Letter To My Best Friends Who Went To Different Colleges
Mom

My better three fourths,

A best friend is a perfect thing to have. They're the first person you think to call to make plans. They're somehow always available when you need to vent about anything and everything that is going wrong in your life. They're there to give you that honest opinion that you're blind to, even if it's a little too honest. Somehow you can give them one glance, and you just know what they're thinking. They're that person that is implied in the 'I won't tell anyone' rule. A best friend knows everything there is to know about you, but still loves you anyways. Luckily, I have three.

Throughout senior year, I had thoughts about how different the following year would be. We'd all go off on our own. We'd make new friends. We'd join different organizations and find new things to do. There would be no more, 'I'll be at your house in ten mins.' No more walking down the halls together. No more going over to each other's house to kill time before practice. In the next year, everything would change and I had never been more scared. What would life without seeing you every day be like? Would I get replaced? Would you forget about me? Would I just be another memory?

A year later, and we're off. Different states, different schools. We said our goodbyes (probably the hardest part). It was kind of funny because we all just acted like we'd see other the next day, but deep down we all knew it'd be a while. Daily 'I miss you' texts were sent and routinely FaceTime dates were had, but it was still so weird not having you with me.

We finally got together a month later, which virtually felt like eternity. Nothing had changed. So for that, I thank you. Thank you for standing by me, no matter how far apart we are. Thank you for willingly answering my late night calls listening to me vent about life. Thank you for making the road trips to see me or tagging along to see another one of us. Thank you for continuing to be like a sister. Thank you for still telling me every detail of your life, because even though it may not seem like much, it means the world that I still have that place in your life. Thank you for not replacing me, even when I don't see you as often. Thank you for telling your new friends about us. Thank you for letting me visit. Thank you for giving me some of the best memories of my life, and thank you for giving me the opportunity to make more with you. Most of all, thank you for being best friend and loving me always. People always talk about finding their forever friends in college, and while I've made some good friends, no one can compare to you guys.

I'm not sure when we'll see each other next, but what I do know is that it will feel like I saw you yesterday. Whether were 10 miles apart, or 100, if you need me, I'll be there, and I know you'd do the same. I know that no matter how busy each of us get, I'll always have you as partners in crime. I could simply never repay you for all your love, laughs, and craziness you've given over the years. Here's to being together the past, present, and future. I love y'all.

See you soon!

Love,

The last fourth

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
