According to Urban Dictionary, "Best Friends are very special people in your life. They are the first people you think about when you make plans. They are the first people you go to when you need someone to talk to. You will phone them up just to talk about nothing, or the most important things in your life."
After reading that definition, I am sure at least one person came to your mind. Consider yourself lucky! For me, I have been fortunate enough to have that specific person in my life since the fifth grade. This means that our friendship only grew because of the dreadful puberty stage, hundreds of sleepovers, boyfriends, distance, and petty fights. My best friend, also known as my boo, finished college and is entering the real world as the word that we have always been scared of: an adult. So, in honor of this momentous event, I can't help but let her know how proud I am!
Dear Best Friend,
You did it! Somehow you made it through those Tuesday nights in college and wrote that long thesis paper during your senior year in order to get your diploma! It's not that I ever doubted you, but some of those late night voicemails had me a little worried. You were just experiencing college, so, in the end, you were just like any other student. Isn't it somewhat terrifying to know that you will never be able to use the whole "I'm a college student" excuse ever again? Well, I suppose that you could always go back to school for a graduate degree later in life.
Even though it is hard to remember every little detail from our ten-year relationship, there are some specific memories that stick out to me. I remember sleepovers at your dad's house and eating chicken strips with fries for breakfast while discussing how we were going to decorate our junior high lockers. I remember getting our drivers licenses and making countless trips to IHOP for 3:00 a.m. breakfasts. I remember going on each others' families vacations and laying on the floor reading Cosmopolitan magazines and trying to figure out the whole relationship thing. (I still haven't mastered this.)
The point of all this is that each memory has helped the both of us transition into the next stage of our life. We didn't realize it at the time, but even the little conversations ended up being big. In the end, we just needed to reassure one another that everything would be okay. We always prepared ourselves for going off to college, but not for the real world. However, when you called me to let me know that you got the job, it gave me hope. If you can do this whole "adult" thing, then I can too! Although this step does seem frightening, just think about the next steps in our lives such as marriage, buying a house, and children! But, then again, that is a whole new article for another time!
All in all, I believe that you will not only succeed in your career, but that you will thrive. I can't wait to hear about it every step of the way! Just make sure that you always have a place for me to sleep, because I will be seeing you soon! Don't worry, we can still have chicken strips and fries for breakfast.
Love,
Your Best Friend
