Bernie Sanders: The Youth's Perspective

College campuses every where are being rocked by the political whirlwind that is Bernie Sanders. It's been only a week into classes here at Ohio State and I have already had extensive conversations with my fellow Buckeyes about this rising star of a Senator. Some have ranged to, "This guy can't actually win, can he?" to "FREE COLLEGE YES" and even "Jesus was a socialist Jew, so Bernie isn't that bad."

But why the appeal? Why has this seventy-something-year-old white man from Vermont captured the hearts and minds of so many young people across this nation?

Because he gets us.

It's no surprise that the Millennial generation is passionate about social justice, the environment, more income equality, and a minimum standard of living for all people. They view government as a contract amongst the people and are tired of having their voices not be heard. The youth are the future, and they want a say in the future they inherit.

He refuses to be owned by corporations.

He cares about everyone's opinion.

He wants all Americans to have access to quality health care.

He wants to see the end of racial profiling and institutional racism.

He wants everyone to have a fair shot at making it.

But most importantly...

HE WANTS TO LEGALIZE FREE COLLEGE.
