3 Benefits Quarantine Brought Us All

Even though being stuck in the house was difficult, there were opportunities in the end that benefited me.

3 Benefits Quarantine Brought Us All

Now that quarantine officially ended and daily life is almost back to normal. I decided to reflect on my time throughout quarantine.

With the start of quarantine, I was sincerely bitter because my Spring Break was cut short which in the end, did not turn out as bad as I thought it would. Of course, I felt a whirlwind of emotions since school was closing and I would be stuck inside, but it turned out to be more positive then I could have expected.

The first realization I came to while being in quarantine was the opportunities offered to me, here are a few I came across.

New Hobbies

While in quarantine, there is such an abundance of free time to which it is almost inevitable to pick up a new hobby. For me, I decided to get into my writing more and further my outlets, such as joining the Odyssey. Since I had all the time in the world, I was able to write about my current state and write in a journal daily to someday look back on all the craziness.

Health

Also with the abundance in time, came the ability to focus on mental and physical health. Personally, my physical health was not the best, so during this time, I was able to focus on bettering myself. Not only that, but I also started to take my mental health more seriously, especially with the new adjustments to online schooling. During this time, I allowed myself to eat healthier, do face masks WAYY more frequently, and even started new exercise challenges (I had to hop on the Chloe Ting trend).

Family

The time in quarantine allowed me to even further catch up and deepen my relationships with my parents. After being at college for a few months, there is so much to fill-in and enjoy the time together because before you know it, you are back at college. Spending time with my parents was probably the most rewarding opportunity during quarantine because we did a variety of fun activities together. For example, playing card games, trivia, or even cooking/baking.

Now that quarantine is over, I cannot wait to go back to hanging with my friends, shop, or eat at restaurants, but I will continue to keep some of the new habits from my quarantined life since I did change myself for the better.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
