What Is Love

I asked my friend "What do you believe is love?"

A friend of mine was talking about love.

I listened as she spoke on and on about how love for the millennial population is too complicated. She went on a rant for about 20 mins and then finally I asked her "What do you believe is love?"

But she couldn't answer.

So I did the night after the conversation - I answered:

THIS I BELIEVE

I believe in living.

In laughter.

In patience.

In smiles for miles.

In kissing in the rain.

In finding someone who makes you happy.

That butterflies don’t only exist in nature but also inside of a tummy.

I believe in love.

So often we forget about the long term. In a society where we can barely wait ten seconds for that YouTube video to load - we forget to wait for love.

Not the kind in movies which is so often perceived as a want or even a need - but a true love.

The kind even creative writers can’t come up with. The love not found through online dating or even through the wonders of high school relationships.

The type of love that can’t be put into song lyrics or quotes. The love people don’t dream about because they even begin to fathom it.

This love is unexplainable. I can’t even begin to tell you what it feels like because I have yet to fall into it.

It’s the type of love that will never die. The flame that won’t burn out. The P to the J and everything in between.

This love seems almost unreal. As if it can’t be reached.

But trust me when I say keep trying.

The heartaches you have to endure that feel like a paper cut through your heart - they’re worth it.

The confusing times when you end up in tears because you aren’t sure you can trust another soul - they get you one step further.

They say to shoot for the moon and if you don’t succeed you’ll fall among the stars but for this.

This love - you need to shoot for Neptune and go even further, trying even harder, to land on Pluto -

You can die from heartbreaks.

It’s known as broken heart syndrome.

It’s caused by “stress” but if you understand the meaning of true, eternal love- you’ll know it’s caused by losing love.

A love like no other.

One that can be expressed in million ways but sometimes we fail to hear.

Put your seatbelt on.

Watch your step.

Get some rest.

Please be careful.

I love you.

Remembering to open up. To be patient for this love.

Understanding love doesn’t just happen overnight. Understanding it may not happen in two weeks either.

Knowing Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Knowing love is essential to life.

It’s the cherry on the top of the sundae.

The view from the top of the ferris wheel.

The song lyrics you can’t seem to get out of your head.

The person you fall in love with - well, they’re even greater than the love.

They’re the person you can call at 3 am just to talk about the weather.

The person who makes you laugh by a simple look at the right time.

The person who makes you happy as they light up your phone.

They’re the person in that YouTube video that’s worth waiting ten seconds to buffer.

Love is tricky.

Loving someone else - even trickier.

But in the end you’ll feel as those you’re on cloud nine.

As if you’re an early bird who just got the worm.

As if the roller coaster of life can only go up from here.

As if waiting for love wasn’t really all that hard.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
