In the spur of the moment decision, I bought concert tickets when I found out that one of my favorite bands was coming to town. Shortly after, I realized that the concert so happened to be on Father’s Day (sorry Dad!). I felt extremely guilty, and when I told my Dad, he teased me at first and made me feel guilty about leaving him half way through Father’s Day. But then he understood because he wants me to have fun and do the things I enjoy in life. Living at home during the summer has made me remember how close I am to my parents and how similar I am to both of them. But as it is around Father’s Day, I am taking pride in the fact that I am a total “daddy’s girl” and what exactly it means to be one.
Being a daddy’s girl means that you look at your dad as being your own personal superhero. From a child to being a full grown adult, you still look at him and go to him knowing he can solve all your problems. He is also your protector and probably has turned into superman once or twice when you were hurt or in danger as a kid. As an adult, he still swoops in whenever you need him to and he is one of the first people you go to for help. Even if he is not physically strong, to you, your dad is the strongest person in the world and you hope to have that same strength one day. I know my dad applies to all of the above.
Being a daddy’s girl also means that your dad is one of your best friends. You like doing the same things he does and you actually enjoy spending time with him. For example, my dad introduced me to the outdoors when I was little and ever since then I can’t get enough of it. We have spent many hours outside and he taught me that it is OK to get dirty, even though I am a girl. Now we share many of the same passions. Being a daddy’s girl also means that you can joke around together and have the same humor. He can be your friend when you need him to be but also your parent whenever you need some serious influence in your life. One of the greatest perks of being a daddy’s girl? You can go to him with all of your bad news and he’ll help you tell your mom!
But what's truly the key to knowing you’re a daddy’s girl? Being his princess, partner in crime, sweetie pie, angel, or whatever he calls you! It is one of the truly best parts of being a daddy’s girl. He works his hardest in life so he can give you everything you’ve ever wanted, and helping all your dreams come true, just so he can always see a smile on your face, is truly a gift. Then, on the days when smiling is the last thing you want to do, your dad is the only one who can put a smile on your face. He’s your role model, hero, first love, and example of what you think a father should be. So to all the dad’s out there, especially mine, who make sure to treat their daughter’s like a princess and their best friend, thank you! I would not be the person I am today without your influence and guidance in my life. Happy Father’s Day!
