Everybody is unique in some shape or form. Before my personality developed, before I got other physical features developed that set me apart from everyone else; I was born with a characteristic that was exceptionally unique.

I was born with a particular defect in my eyes, called "Colobomas". It is an abnormality that occurs before birth. Color nomads are created by the missing pieces of tissue that form the eye.

Many nicknames have arisen to classify the abnormality such as cat eyes, snake eyes, keyholes, and much more. I have been ridiculed because of them and I have been told that many people wish they had them. But, there are many side effects that come along with them.

The missing tissues in my eyes occur in several parts of the eye if not all of it. The iris, retina, blood vessel layer, and optic nerves.

Not everyone gets it in both eyes like I have, and not all the time does it effect eyesight, but it does affect mine. When it specifically affects the retina, that's when the eyesight is hindered, especially in the upward direction. Mine also have affected my optic nerves which is an even greater yield to be eyesight.

I am almost twenty-one years old, and I have cataracts which most people don't get until later in life. Specialists have told me I was even born with them as well. My mother who is still young in age also has Colobomas, has cataracts along with glaucoma.

I have a great risk of retinal displacement, which would be caused by fluid disconnecting my retina from my actual eyeball. In turn, would cause blindness. Yearly visits to a specialist will help prevent that from occurring.

I have wore glasses since I was old enough to do so, and as I approaching being a teen I turned to contacts. Some eye doctors refuse me contacts due to my eyes being super susceptible to infection, so if I do not take care of my contacts and keep them clean I could get infection really easily.

I have been to a substantial amount of different doctors and specialists throughout the years. I hope one day a solution arises to significantly improve licking with Colobomas.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
