When I was a junior in high school, my mom asked me if I would want to be a host sister. I said yes. I grew up with two older brothers, so I never really did have the sister experience. After I was asked, I was excited to plan out everything to do with my sister. It would be like Elsa and Anna! It was exciting when my big sister came to live with us. I finally had someone to talk to in the car and the best part was that she was a couple of months older than me, so I had a BIG sister. This was a great opportunity. I am glad I said yes.
We had a lot in common. We both love Taylor Swift so that was a start. However we were total opposites. I was the orderly perfectionist and she was the spontaneous wild flower. I was shy and she was outgoing. The perfect sister combination. My Friday night consisted of a fun dance party with Taylor Swift music blasting. As with my sister's Friday night was laid back and spontaneous trips to the mall! My big sister taught me to relax and live in the moment. I went from being an 89 year old to a 40 year old. Thank you sis.
I have also learned about how much of a mom I am. I was always making sure my sister was out the door on time with lunch and clean clothes. I always was making sure my sister was doing her homework. Good grades are the GPA booster, am I right? I am an overachiever. I work hard and I am a very diligent person. My sister is very intelligent, she really did not need the motherly nature, but I consider education a very important aspect in anyone's life. Everyone should have a good education. But most importantly, a great attendance record! Everyone needs to be on time for class. It will boost your grades and grades boost your GPA. I was always making sure we were at school by 7:30am.
Another thing this opportunity taught me is... I am a neat freak! I have like un-diagnosed neat freak syndrome! My sister was total opposite! I would have literally cleaned someone's room if they would let me. There have been times where I considered becoming a maid for my own cleaning business. I am a total neat freak. When it comes to houses or cars or even lockers. I would organize my friend's lockers for free. Thank you sis for being the Rachel Green to my Monica Geller!
Thank you for all these valueable life lessons. I am so thankful I had this opportunity to have a big sister. Being a host sister was a great experience. And I finally was able to have a sibling not +6 years older than me! (I still love my brothers; I wrote an article about them)! I will always be the baby sister and I am ok with it!
