Beginners Guide: What Is The Bible?

Some people who are just getting into Religion often wonder why people make such a big deal out of the Bible. The Bible is the account of God’s action in the world, and his purpose with all creation. It is a collection of 66 books split into an old and new testament. It is centered around Jesus as the main character as the entire book is essentially about him. The purpose of the Bible is to reveal who God is and to guide followers on how to live life and get to heaven.

The Bible is a collection of 66 books. The 66 books include historical information such as Acts, books of poetry such as Psalms, books of law such as Deuteronomy, books of prophecy such as Isaiah, formal letters such as Hebrews, and biographies such as John. These books were written by a large number of authors over a long period of time. Kings, priests, farmers, and more were all part of these contributions. As stated above, the Bible is split into the old and new testament. The old testament describes the nation of Israel. God made a promise to use Israel to bless the whole world (Genesis 12:3). The new testament details the coming of Jesus Christ. He lived a perfect life and rose from the dead.

The Old Testament is centered around God’s laws, especially the first five books. Leviticus is a perfect example of this. There are covenants made to characters such as Abraham and Moses because God was seen as an evil person. He was very strict and these covenants gave the Israelites hope and direction in life.

The New Testament is centered around Jesus as the main character. In the new testament, he makes his entrance into the world. The Bible makes the arrival of Jesus the most important event in the history of the world. Jesus is God in human form, as God himself wanted to become a man to give us a better understanding of who he is. Jesus does amazing things in the world, as he heals paralyzed people with his words, and he teaches others how to be great people.

The Bible documents the origin of the world (Genesis). God recounts the creation of the world and mankind. The Bible is read by so many people because it is a way to receive communication from God. The Bible is full of answers about how we are to live. In Hebrews 4:12, it says: “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Reading the Bible is meant to deepen the relationship with Christ.

The Bible is a book that centers around God and his words. There are 66 books of different genre and literary style, written by a variety of people. There are many important characters in the story, but none as relevant as Jesus Christ. The book serves as a guide for followers on how to live life and end up in heaven.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
