"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Beginner's Guide To Getting Your Life Together
Paige Sumser

You are probably thinking, everyone around me has their life figured out by now, and I haven’t the slightest clue of where to even begin. I’m here to tell you that I am 19 years old and still clueless. You are not alone.

Life isn’t about having everything figured out – that would be pretty boring to know everything. Life is about continuously learning new things in the world around you as well as learning new things about yourself. Throughout my 19 years of life experiences, I have come to the conclusion that it’s OK to not know your life plan. Let me repeat that: It is OK to not know what you will be doing 10 years from now.

I’m going to go out on a whim here and say that at some point in your life, you have been asked the infamous question, “What do you want to do with your life?” You are probably wishing people would stop asking a question you don’t have the answer to. Me, too, friend. Me, too. In all seriousness, it is OK to be clueless as to what you want to do with your life. How are you supposed to know your entire life plan when you haven’t even had the opportunity to explore your options?

I can guarantee that you are not alone in this state of uncertainty and confusion.

Let’s brainstorm and start to plan your life out. Think of something you love to do or are passionate about. Now, is there any way you could turn that into a career? If so, you can stop reading this article and just automatically tell everyone you are going to be an astronaut or, maybe even, a movie producer. If that doesn’t work out for you, there is always the opportunity for you to go to superhero school and just learn how to save the world. Now, I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a pretty good back up plan to me.

I think we need to dig a little deeper into that beautiful soul of yours. If you are deciding what college to go to, what major to choose or what club to join, remember to pick something you find interesting and keep in mind that it’s OK to change your mind about it later on. Don’t let the fear of making the wrong choice paralyze you from making any decisions. You do not have to have everything set in stone. Start thinking about your interests and what you are good at.

The cool part of life is that it isn’t just about the end goal. While the goals you set are important, the journey to achieve them is the hidden gem. At first glance, your focus isn’t on the journey of how to get from point A to point B; it is on the end goal. If you aren’t careful, you could be so focused on the finish line, you could miss the entire journey along the way.

You don’t have to put the pressure of figuring your entire life out at such a young age. Remember, whatever you decide now will probably change later on. You are not limited to one career or major – it’s OK to veer off from your initial path. All you have to do right now is recognize what you are passionate about and somehow find a way to incorporate that into your life.

My point is, you need to set the bar high for yourself because you are in control of your life from this point forward. Don’t limit yourself because you are capable of way more than you think. No matter what you end up deciding, know that I support you and wish you the best. And the next time you are reacquainted with the forbidden question of where you are going in life, remember to keep in mind that it’s OK to not have an answer. Start off by setting smaller, attainable goals for yourself in order to eventually go after those bigger dreams of yours. While I do joke around a bit, I hope that whatever you end up doing in life (something super awesome, I’m sure) that you are genuinely loving every second of it and having a blast while you’re at it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
