For the lucky girls who are uninformed of this toxic fashion trend, contouring is a makeup style that helps shapes someone’s facial structure. This look includes sharper cheekbones, a thinner nose and a thin face. A trend shouldn’t be so influential for so many people. Goucho pants and crop tops didn’t affect people’s daily lives or define “true beauty.” Let’s all take a moment to look in the mirror, see how amazing we all are and work what your momma gave ya! Be happy with yourself ladies, you don’t need contouring to be amazing.
- Be a confident wolf, not a mindless sheep. Lord knows we all love a good fashion magazine or makeup tutorial, however, are women that mindless to take part in every fashion trend? Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely fashion do’s and don’ts, but contouring should be on your “don’t list.” We are the age of the “hipsters” and the “I don’t give a damn”s, so why is everyone agreeing to idolize the same facial structure? Don’t be afraid to be unique ladies!
- You’re burning money. The average cost for basic makeup per month (simple foundation and mascara) is $50. Now add bronzer, highlights, blush, and both liquid and powder foundation. That comes to a hefty $300 per month. Contouring has even gone the lengths of permanent surgery that starts at $13,000 happening in the U.S., Japan, Korea and other countries. The lengths women go for ideal beauty is becoming very extreme and borderline bananas.
- There is no facial originality. Don’t become a cookie cutter ladies. We are all strong, intelligent, gorgeous babes so promote your originality! It’s crazy that women conform to the “ultimate facial structure.” Work the features you have and make it known that your original bone structure is beautiful. Throw on some lipstick, look in that mirror and love who you are.
- Accept your God-given beauty. Makeup is supposed to enhance your natural beauty, not cover you face up or create an entirely new one. It’s silly to be someone you’re not, so why cake on chemicals that change your bone structure? Most people don’t even look like themselves after the contouring application. Be confident in who you are! We are all beautiful and it is time we start celebrating that.
- You’re making Kim Kardashian your role model. I’m not totally hating on Kimmy K., but there are hundreds of other women worth idolizing that are actually changing the world, not just the superficial cosmetic world. Why don’t we follow the facial structure of Margaret Nash, a WWII navy nurse or Emma Watson, an amazing feminist speaker we all know and love? Let’s pick powerful female role models that actually mold our world into something better.
- There are dozens of chemicals in makeup. Everyone’s a sucker for a great shade of blush or the perfect foundation for your skin. Just be wary about the amount you’re caking on your amazing face. There are harsh toxins that many of you ladies aren’t aware of, including myself. BHA and BHT (cancer-causing elements), coal tar dyes, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (also cancer-causing), parabens that interfere with reproductive functionality, and irritating fragrances are usually hidden in our favorite daily products. Maybe we should all join together and go natural for a while because who knew products you use so often can be so hazardous to your health?
- Contouring your skin?! Contouring is going a little far. Did you know girls are contouring the back of their necks, collar bones and cleavage? Some people go as far as to use foundation on their entire body. Sorry to break it to you ladies, but we all know women aren’t naturally airbrushed. Be comfortable in your own skin and proud of your body!
I’ll admit, contouring is a true art, but completely unnecessary. Beauty shouldn’t be defined by one ultimate fashion rule. We are all gorgeous and the best part is we are all original, so don’t buy into contouring, it’ll be the thing of the past by next year. Be happy, be confident and be who you are!
