This generation knows all about the infamous "Tumblr Hipster" and/or "Tumblr Girl". The "cool, popular" person who has it all. But how can I become one? Do you have what it takes to become such an infamous being? Answer: yes, you do have what it takes.
How can I look like a hipster?:
Clothes--mix and match! Try something new, be bold! Research on Google and Pintrist and Tumblr to see what "hipsters" wear and try to match them. Maroon, black, white, cream, army green, pink, brown, dark blue--those colors are a must! You'll find them in a hipsters closet, but don't forget about the other colors! Orange, yellow, purple, red--wear them with pride to! Sweaters, skater skirts, boyfriend jeans, skinny jeans, flannel shirts, Maxi dresses, regular dresses, funny shirts, stylish jackets--these are a must for others to look at you and think, "HIPSTER"!
Shoes--converse, boots, vans, flats, sandals, cute socks (and fuzzy socks)...basically most shoes minus gym shoes, but even they can be hipster if they're cute (if you like them, they're cute).
Accessories--lots of rings, earnings, necklaces, and bracelets, flower crowns, infinity scarfs and beanies. But remember: if you don't like something, don't wear it to just be seen as a hipster. Be a hipster, but sill be you.
Nails--keep them painted and well kept. Try new things, design them if you want to be fancy, try an accent nail, or keep the all the same--it doesn't matter. Just-painted and cute nails are a good idea on your quest to be more hipster. Try to match the color to the season. Personally I never do, but it does scream HIPSTER when you know which colors are "in" this season.
Hair--style it! Whether it be curled, straight, braided, in a messy bun, a pony tail or a mixture of any of the above it doesn't matter! Change it up, experiment and have fun with it. Always wear your hair in a way that you like and a way that makes you feel good. Know yourself, love yourself and be proud of yourself. That is the number one rule of being a true hipster.
Okay so now you've got the look, now get into the mindset of a hipster. Read John Green books and "The Perks of Being A Wallflower" (only if you want to of course). Try "Pretty Little Liars" and see if you like it. Most hipsters either watch the show or tried to watch it. If you don't like it, that's okay! You're still incredibly rad. Also, don't be shy with your music, if you love country, love it! If you love rap, listen to it! Don't let anyone tell you your music taste is "lame" or "bad" because music speaks to the soul, let your soul love what it wants.
Embrace the geek! If you like Harry Potter, then love it. If you're a Whovian, don't try to hide your love for the Doctor. If you enjoy anime, or video games, or anything else tags is deemed "geeky," love them anyway. It is hipster to know who you are and what you love, and to love them even though it isn't "cool". Trust me, your love for superheroes is way more hipster then pretending that you don't like them. Embrace the geek with pride, and don't let anyone tell you that your love for geeky stuff is lame because it's truly awesome!
Focus on school: it isn't hipster to fail school, or to think education is a waste of time. Do your homework, pay attention to your teachers, take notes. Being smart, taking pride in yourself and your education is way more hipster than pretending to not care about your education at all.
Starbucks: Starbucks is a common hipster place to be, but it's also a financial burden to drink a lot of a lot of Starbucks. So get a cute thermos, and/or a cute cup and make your own drinks! Whether it be coffee, hot chocolate, tea, water, juice or whatever your favorite drink is, make it at home and bring it with you. Not only is this cheaper, but you get your favorite drinks! And here's a fun tip: if your drink runs out, wash out your cup and fill it with water. Being healthy is hipster and you can use your cute cup more often this way. Also, a side note, you don't have to change your lifestyle to be hipster. Don't believe people who say "only skinny girls who run everyday can be hipster"--that's FALSE! Anyone can be hipster, and everyone is beautiful. To be a hipster, you have to feel beautiful! And don't worry darling, because you are absolutely stunning.
Add your own twist to things. Stay true to who you are. It's one thing to become a hipster, and another thing to become a tumblr girl. Don't lose yourself along the way. Act hipster if that is what you want to do, but don't do it to be popular. You are popular. You are amazing just the way you are, and you don't need to change to be "cool".
