The entirety of 2016 definitely had its shares of ups and downs, which included the beauty community. We experienced a multitude of new trends that claimed to be the "next big thing" but ended up falling flat. The following need to be left behind in 2016.
1. Drawn-on Freckles
I think this one takes the cake. Drawn-on freckles received much more backlash than praise, and there's a good reason why. Not only are they noticeably unnatural, but they also carry insensitive undertones as well.
2. Strobing
Don't get me wrong, highlighter is always a staple for a great makeup look, but brushing your entire face with glitter? Not so much. Strobing was initially an alternative to contouring, but nothing can replace the sacred contour. Stick with the standard contour kit and cheek/nose highlight.
3. Blue Eyeshadow
Blue colored eyeshadow made an appearance at fashion week in Paris this year, but this doesn't mean that it should make a comeback. Let's leave those brightly colored pans back in 2001.
4. Glitter Lips
This trend may be okay for the runway, but for a Starbucks date? How would you even enjoy your coffee?
5. Glitter Eyes
This one speaks for itself too. Imagine one of those glitter pieces getting into your eye. Just imagine.
6. Fur Nails
Let's think about what happens when you have to wash your hands. Your furry nails will be wet all day long.
7. Bleached Brows
Your brows are easily one of your most important features and can make or break your look. Do yourself a favor and skip the bleach.
7. Rainbow Highlighter
Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for beautifully pigmented highlighters. However, rainbow highlighters just don't look good on your skin. There are so many better options out there that bring shame to rainbow highlighters.
8. Glow-in-the-Dark Hair Chalk
I mean, who really needs this?
