1. Spf is your friend
The first step to becoming a better you is to take care of your skin, and one of the ways to do that is protecting it from the sun. Say it with me everybody: I don't want to be sunburned. I don't want to be sunburned. I do not want to be sunburned.
Good, now grab your sunscreen and other spf-laced products and slather them on.
2. Wear whatever shade of lipstick works best for you.
Look, if you want to wear bright red lipstick, go ahead. If you want to wear nude lipstick, pink lipstick or even green lipstick, wear it. You do you. As long as you know what shades look best on you, I can't tell you what to do on that front. Not my lips, not my rules.
3. Same with that black eyeliner.
There will be plenty of people that tell you that dark makeup and dark hair looks too severe, but if that's what makes you happy, it doesn't matter if your make up is dark or if you're wearing any make up at all. Just rock it. You look fabulous with your black eyeliner and dark red lips.
4. Color your hair
If you want red hair, dye your hair red. Want to go blonde? Go blonde. If you want bright blue hair? Check with your place of employment first (trust me, you'll thank me later when you're not in trouble for dying it a non-natural color if it's a no-go) and if it's fine, dye it blue! Keeping it natural? Keep it natural. Just take care of your hair and make sure it's healthy.
5. Men can in fact wear makeup
This is 2015, if a dude wants to wear foundation and eyeliner, a little makeup or a ton of makeup, he has every right to do so. Makeup is makeup, and it doesn't have to be exclusively feminine by any means.
6. Natural or unnatural?
The next time someone says to you they prefer "natural" makeup on somebody and you feel the slightest tinge of embarrassment about it, ask yourself the following question: should I dwell on one random individual's preferences, or am I doing my makeup for myself?
The answer is the latter. They are one person out of a myriad of people who would love your makeup and you too.
7. That said, natural makeup or no makeup is also rad.
If you don't like makeup or prefer to wear the minimal amount of it, go for it. Natural beauty is radiant. If someone gives you a hard time about it, ask yourself the same question stated above. You'll find you've probably reached the same conclusion.
8. Bottom line: Be yourself
Look, I'm no beauty expert, clearly. I can't tell you what to do and what not to do with your makeup, who can wear it and who can't, or enforce whatever other arbitrary rules there are for this stuff. At the end of the day, we all remove it and have to come face to face with who we are. As long as you're happy with yourself, there's no problem here. Keep being you, friend.
