As soon as I was old enough to be excited about makeup, I started learning more and more about it as time went on; how many different brands there were, how it could truly enhance a person's confidence. I was instantly intrigued. Makeup is so personal and what works for one person may not work for another, but there are some things about makeup that all beauty lovers enjoy.
1. It washes off.
Experiment your heart out. Like the way your makeup turns out? Leave it, and wear it proudly! Think you want to try something else? Go for it! At the end of the day, you can make your "look" whatever you want it to be, and you can change it entirely, or even small parts of it, if you wish.
2. It can be a creative outlet.
I'm not much of a painter, I was never good at drawing freehand, but I do love to paint on and buff in my foundation and draw on my eyeliner.
3. There are no rules.
There are ways people like to use different types of products like bronzer versus blush, but makeup does not come with directions. You can use your bronzer as an eye shadow and your shimmery blush as a highlight. Apply your contour with an eyeshadow brush, it is up to you. There is not a right or wrong way, creativity and ingenuity are welcomed and encouraged.
4. IMATS!
IMATS, or the International Makeup Artist Trade Show, is a makeup event that takes place in Los Angeles, New York, Vancouver, London, Toronto, and Sydney each year. It is an event unlike any other where makeup professionals, exhibitors as well as beginners can come together, learn from one another, and share their creations.
5. The YouTube beauty community.
#youtubemademedoit
Time and time again I find myself buying a new product because one of my many favorite beauty gurus on YouTube recommended it to me. I am so thankful for YouTube and the amazing people that sit in front of their cameras and share their opinions with their viewers, introduce new techniques and brands, review products, and create makeup looks that inspire us to create our own.
6. So many choices!
How do you choose just one nail polish color, just one lipstick, just one concealer? It's impossible! There are just so many color options, so many shades!
7. Makeup is for anyone.
Anyone who wants to experiment with makeup, should. Makeup takes artistry to a whole new level and can be learned and taught and practiced by anyone and everyone who wants to. It can be done successfully by anyone who wants to try something new, because every creation is unique and valuable in its own way.
8. You can feel comfortable in your own skin.
A lot of people look at makeup as a mask, or an identity concealer. I see makeup as an identity and confidence enhancer. It is a beautiful thing to feel comfortable with who you are. If makeup is going to help you feel good about yourself, do not let anyone tell you, you cannot wear it! On the other hand, nobody should ever feel like they have to wear makeup.
Wear makeup for yourself, not for others.
