Beauty hacks are those tricks around makeup, hair, or really anything a girl has to do to improve her appearance. YouTubers always talk about beauty hacks, and there are tons of articles on them. The real question is, do they really work? After testing these out with the help of my sister and friends we were able to make this list of beauty hacks that are worth doing.
1. Baking Soda and Lemon Juice for Teeth Whitener
First, make sure your teeth are dry of saliva. Then, mix several teaspoons of baking soda and enough lemon juice to get a consistency of a paste. Apply the paste to a toothbrush and on to teeth. Leave on for about a minute, and then rinse.
2. Contouring for Slimness
Contouring is one of those techniques that will create shadow to make facial features look slimmer. Apply it underneath the cheekbones, on the temple, on the jaw line, and sides of nose to have a more defined make-up look. To contour, use a dark powder or a matte bronzer.
3. Highlight for Dimension
Highlighting creates dimension to makeup and gives it a sun-kissed glow. It emphasizes on what you want to stand out. Apply it in between eyebrows, on the cheekbone, on the chin, and the bridge of the nose. To highlight, use a few shades lighter than your skin tone of either a powder or a concealer.
3. Dry Shampoo for Greasy Hair
We all know it’s not the best idea to wash your hair every day since the natural oils will be stripped from the hair. The best thing to use to hide that greasy next day hair is dry shampoo. Let’s face it we all have those days where we just don’t feel like washing our hair. Just spray the dry shampoo at the roots of the hair and blend the powdered spray into the roots by rubbing it with your fingers. It’ll look as good as new, and with extra volume.
4. Castor Oil for Thicker Eyelashes and Eyebrows
This one sounds crazy, but it works. My sister swears by it. By applying a thin layer to eyelashes and eyebrows they will grow thicker in no time.
5. Almond Oil/Coconut Oil for Hair Growth
Use half a tablespoon of either almond oil or coconut oil and apply to hair at night. Then the next day wash your hair and it will be so much smoother and for it to grow healthier and somewhat faster.
***Almond Oil can also be used as a makeup remover too***
6. Bronzer/Dark Lip Liner for Plumper Lips
Forget the lip plumpers and the over drawn lips. This technique won’t make you look like a clown or make your lips sting. First, use bronzer under the lower lip to make a “shadow” to look plumper. Also using a darker lip liner down middle of lower lip (blend) will give you a plumper lip as well.
7. Primers/Set Powders/ Setting Sprays for Long Lasting
For long-lasting and fully-pigmented makeup adding a primer will do the trick. Also, when applying a liquid foundation using a set powder is another way to make it more lasting. I recommend a makeup setting spray to use once you finish your makeup I use Urban Decay’s All Nighter and it makes my make up even more long lasting than without it.
8. Almond Oil/Cold Spoon/Cucumbers/Raw Potato Slices/Teabags for Dark Circles
All of these options are a great way to help with the dark circles under the eye. I suffer from bad dark circles. I also use Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Corrector as well. If you use the teabags make sure they are used and drained out, and also that the tea is caffeinated.
9. Brown Sugar for Exfoliation
Brown sugar not only smells great but can make skin smoother. I tend to use it on my lips before I put on a lipstick to get rid of dead skin and it works like a charm.
10. Oatmeal for Dry Skin
It sounds crazy, but it definitely works. Just add some oatmeal to your face mask and it’ll help in no time. By using a tablespoon of dry oatmeal, a tablespoon of honey, hot water/warm milk, three to four drops of lemon extract as a face scrub.
11. Onion Juice/Rubbing Alcohol for Pimples
Apply only a little bit on to the pimple before bed and it should shrink over night. My roommate and I swear by rubbing alcohol for our pimples.
12. Moisturizer for a Soft Face
Apply a moisturizer before putting on makeup and after taking it off to have a super smooth face.
13. Moroccan Oil for Dead Ends
After washing hair, wait until hair is damp and use a dime size of the oil and apply only to the ends. Do not touch the roots or your hair will look greasy! It will help keep ends from getting worse, I use it all the time!
14. Heat Protectant for Less Damage from Heating Tools
I hope everyone already knows this one, but just in case here it is. First section off your hair appropriately and spray the heat protectant, wait a minute for the heat protectant to dry into hair and using a wide toothed comb, comb through hair.
15. Heatless Curls
Besides scrunching it with moose or gel there are a ton of other ways to curl your hair without damaging as much. Damp hair works best for all of these techniques. There is a technique where you put a headband on your head and wrap strands of hair around it. Also wrapping strands of hair around straws, socks, heatless curlers, and even paper towels are more ways to create curls. The size of the curl depends on the width of the object. Wider objects create looser curls.
16. Tissues as Blotting Pads
Instead of wasting money on the expensive blotting pads tissues work equally as great. But of course, never rub the tissues always dab.
17. Crayola Crayons as a Lipstick

18. Tape for Defined Eye Shadow
Put a piece of tape at the end of your eye to your eyebrow, and then apply eye shadow. When done, take off the tape and there will be a defined line to where the eye shadow ends and where the foundation is.
19. Translucent Powder for Long Lasting Lipstick
After applying lipstick, lightly place a tissue over your lips. Then get a fluffy brush with some translucent powder on it and lightly dab it on the tissue on to your lips.
20. Using a Spoon when Applying Mascara
Don't you hate it when mascara ends up on your eyelids or under your lash line? I swear it happens to me every single time I apply mascara. By putting a spoon underneath your eye and on top while applying the mascara to bottom and top lashes it can prevent that annoying habit.
