What does a rose signify to you? Does it represent something important in your life? Or is it just a beautiful flower? Most people would see a flower and think of how pretty it is, especially among other roses of all colors. Don’t get me wrong! I love flowers and the amazing fragrance that they come with, but for me, a rose is not just a rose. Why? Well, to me, a rose represents love and beauty.
The summer of 2013, I was given the opportunity to go to Germany with my Church for a big Teen Conference called “Teenstreet.” I was sixteen. My church group happened to be the only American group there out of many different countries that showed up. One night, my insecurities hit me and they hit me hard. My small group leader took me to the back to be prayed over. While I was there, the lady praying over me told me to close my eyes and see if God would tell me anything. With my eyes closed tight, I was given a picture. That image was of me in my room. I was looking in the mirror smiling. There was not one thing that I was changing about myself, and right in front of my mirror, there was a single rose. When I finally looked up, I told her what I had seen. She said God had given her an image as well: One single rose with thorns on the stem. Going into more details, she explained that the rose stood for me and my beauty and that I was as beautiful as a rose. When looking at the thorns, she believed they were there to protect myself from the enemy’s words and lies.
Most girls will say they have insecurities, especially in their teen years. They feel that they have to look a certain way to fit in with people at their schools or around them. In today’s world, beauty is a big thing. If you want to look or feel pretty, it is like you have to wear a good amount of makeup and dress a certain way. But why? Why do we have to dress certain ways and wear a lot of makeup? Why is it that we have such a hard time believing we are made in the image of God? Easy; it is the lies of Satan.
It is practically impossible to live in this world and not feel a sense of insecurity. But, as Johnny Diaz states as the title of one of his songs, “There could never be a more beautiful you.” Don’t fall for the lies of the enemy because God made you who you are. Don’t change because you want to fit in. Show the world what God has done in you and let your inner beauty shine!
