Dear Grandma,
I wanted to tell you that you’re the best grandma a girl could ever ask for. You continue to inspire me every day just by simply getting out of bed and getting yourself together, even if it’s just to go get your hair done down the street. You’re always the one to ask me how my life is going and you always tell me that you know I can do whatever I want and be excellent at it. I know that I don’t call you as often as I should and I’m sorry about that.
Every time I do call, you always answer the phone as if the last time we spoke was yesterday. I hope you know that I can hear the excitement in your voice when you realize that it’s me. You never forget to tell me how much you love me every single time I see you. I hope you know it means a lot.
I’m sorry that grandpa had to pass away so suddenly and I’m sorry that you’re all alone in the house now. I know how much you miss him and your continuous love for him makes me hope that I get to have one just like it. I love when you tell me stories about your childhood memories because it feels as if I was right there with you. Thank you for telling me the story about the time you were dating grandpa and another man at the same time because you didn’t know which one you liked better.
I love how you laugh every time you remember the fact that grandpa caught you walking down the street with him and you had to awkwardly introduce them to each other. I can promise you that I will tell my kids about that one. Thank you for always teaching me to look my best when I go out because “you never know who you’re gonna meet.” I love that every time you sit down for dinner you need to have a glass a wine. I guess you can be the one to blame for my love for wine as well.
Thank you for always sneaking me money even when I didn’t need it and even when my dad said no. I don’t know how you dealt with five kids by yourself while grandpa was working and I hope that I’ll have the ability to do that one day. I’ll never forget all the times that my brother and I did something life changing and you would call the house hysterically crying because you couldn’t get over how proud you were. I think my parents have heard you tell them that they have the best children in the world at least over 1,000 times.
Thank you for always being down to go on a shopping spree even when everyone else tells me no. You have done more than enough for me and I don’t think there is a way to repay you. Even if there was, you wouldn’t want anything in return. You’re the most selfless person I know and I love you for that. I miss you every day that I’m at school and can’t to come home and gossip to you about my life.
Love always,
Caitlyn
