The Beautiful Country I Call Home

A little piece of where I come from.

One of my favorite places to travel to is Honduras. Now, that might be a little biased for me to say because that is where I was born and where most of my family lives. But to me, it is one of the best places because of the diversity of the land. There are beaches, forests and so many great small towns. One of the major things that Honduras has to offer is the fact that we are descendants from the Mayan people. There are so many pyramids and buildings that the Mayans made that are still standing today. In the summer of 2012, I got the opportunity to visit the Mayan ruins for the first time. It was such an incredible experience because I had never seen anything like it. The pyramids were incredibly tall. I could not help myself from asking how did these people build such amazing buildings and temples. I feel like everyone should explore a little more of where they come from and their roots. It really gave me the opportunity to connect with the place and see how far we have come.

Another great thing that Honduras has to offer is its coffee. It has placed very high in the world and won several international competitions. The Copan region of Honduras is where most of the coffee comes from. It is picked by hand and there are many workers taking care of the fields. The coffee from Honduras is now being used all around the world including Starbucks. I remember the drive to Copan and rolling down the windows to smell the coffee farms. The smell was incredible, smooth and rich just like the coffee that came from the plants. I like to encourage people to try it because it is amazing!

One of the beauties about Honduras is the island of Roatan. The water is incredibly clear and the sand is white. The island sits on the northern part of Honduras in the Caribbean. There are so many things to do there like snorkeling. Over the summer of 2015, I got the chance to go to Roatan and experience it all first hand. I went out snorkeling near the coral reefs and it was so beautiful! There all kinds of vibrant colored fish and corals. I was also able to see and hold a lot of starfish. The really cool thing about the island is that there are not any sharks. I really could not believe this because it was an open ocean! Later, the natives explained that the coral reefs surround the entire island which serves as a barrier that keeps the sharks out. I was really happy about that! One of the many perks from the island is that fact that people native to the island have their own dishes of food and culture. I was able to take in all that they had to offer and the food was exquisite! I really encourage people to take the opportunity to travel because it changes their perspective and their outlook on life. I definitely believe that Honduras would be a great asset to your travel list!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
