It's finally summer vacation; finals are over, and we all get to go home and be free from school, homework, and studying for awhile. And we love it... For about a month. We all have to admit it: after about a month of not having school obligations, we start to get bored. Personally, there are times I find myself wishing it was move-in week, and fall semester was about to start. So instead of wishing your summer away because you're bored, here are some fun (and cheap!) ideas to help beat summer break boredom:
1. Take a Day Trip:
While taking a full vacation would be nice, vacations can be expensive to actually plan and make happen. So, instead, get some friends and go on a day trip. Pick a destination, usually no more than two hours away from home, and just go for the day. Leave somewhat early that day, and drive back later that evening. That way, the only expenses come from gas and food; no hotel fees!
2. Volunteer Somewhere:
As someone who spends a lot of their free time volunteering at their local animal shelter, I highly support this idea. Many businesses and companies are always looking for volunteers; animal shelters and hospitals often take anyone over the age of 13. Personally, I recommend volunteering at an animal shelter, because who doesn't love playing with puppies and kittens all day?
3. Try/Learn Something New:
The phrase "you learn something new everyday," while true, is only half of the learning experience. Why not learn about, or how to do, something that interests you? A lot of community centers offer cheap, or free for community residents, classes for many different interests, skills, or hobbies. There are many options, and with them being cheap, or even free, the possibilities are endless.
4. Throw a Party or Potluck:
While this may end up on the more expensive side, if you're providing everything yourself, throwing a party with all your friends will definitely chase away summer-break boredom. Or, if you're wanting to avoid spending a lot of money, make it a potluck! Everyone gets to bring what they want, try new dishes, and spend time with friends. Either way, party or potluck, its a win-win situation.
5. Get Crafty:
This one somewhat goes with the idea of learning something new, but a lot of DIY projects, as well as arts and crafts, are a lot of fun. Your projects and crafts can be for yourself, or can even serve as gifts for family and friends. Some ideas for crafty DIY projects are tie-dye shirts, homemade bookmarks, and many more.
The ideas and possibilities to beat summer break boredom are endless, and the Internet is full of ideas as well. So don't wish away your summer; enjoy it!
