“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.” - Bil Keane
It is so easy to place all your hope in the future. It is so easy to think ahead to your weekend plans, next big game, upcoming break, future career, classes next semester, or the next stage in your relationship.
There is nothing wrong with feeling excitement for those things, but do not forget to enjoy what you have now.
Five or ten years from now, you don't want to look past on your past and realize that you spent all of it wishing for the future to come sooner. You're going to miss this, so for now, you should cherish the moment you're in. There are blessings in every stage of life that you won't have in the next—enjoy them while you have them.
Remember when you were ten and you just wanted to be an adult so badly? Remember when you were in elementary school and you just couldn't wait to go to high school? Or when you were in high school and you could hardly wait to go to college? As much as I genuinely enjoy what I've experienced of adulthood and college so far, I am grateful my parents taught me to cherish my youth.
As excited as I am for my future, I have to remember to enjoy each day that I am given.
"This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." - Psalm 11:24
Every day is a blessing that we shouldn't waste by waiting around for future days to come. You are currently in the very future that you wished for long ago. Enjoy it, and don't let it be taken for granted. There will always be something else to look forward to, but you won't always have the same opportunities that you are currently presented with now.
