The popular, but mysterious artist Banksy opened up an interactive art showcase called "Dismaland" this week. The entire internet has been freaking out over the creepy structures and sudden appearance of this park that seems to remind us all of "The Happiest Place on Earth."
According to different sets of rumors and gossip, a show called "Grey Fox" was supposed to be filming in Weston-super-Mare (a beach town in the UK). But where the real speculations came from is what is being built on the site of an old abandoned "Lido" (British for a beach resort). For a while no one in this Beach Town really understood what was being built and why.
Images of a creepy, yet familiar, castle are popping up all over the internet. As well as a statute of oil-rig trucks contorted into an abstract "S" shape, known as the "Big Rig Jig" by the American Artist Mike Ross. Soon the internet took reins on the idea and started piecing together that this would be Banksy's biggest set of works yet.
The internet really freaked out when the woman who is "allegedly" Banksy's manager, Holly Cushing, was seen on the site multiple times. She was been spotted talking to security guards and even entering the site days before its opening on August 21.
Banksy is known for taking on political and social issues to a whole new level. From gun violence, police brutality, marriage equality, and even the obsession with technology; Banksy has a way of grabbing people's attention. Plus, no one really knows who he is.
So why is Banksy attacking a company known for supplying us of our childhood dreams? Well it is no secret that Banksy doesn't really like Mickey Mouse, using him in many of his credited art pieces. He has used the iconic ears in a multitude of art portraying the impact on teenagers, our ideals of "dreams," and even in a piece about gun control.
Disney, being a huge company that owns multiple different TV outlets like all of ABC and ESPN, is likely the main point of Banksy's biggest art piece by far takes on challenging childhood dreams and what children don't learn in the Wonderful World of Disney.
In true Banksy fashion, Dismaland has attracted many people and even caused the Dismaland site to crash due to the rush of people buying tickets. Dismaland will be open from now until late September.
