Crossroads Cafeteria
While entering the Crossroads Cafeteria on a typical weekday for dinner, a Concordia Chicago student by the name of Ana Coral walks over the to her table sits down with her chicken and potatoes. Ana takes a first bite and it tastes bland, lacking flavor of all sorts and salt for the most part. However, the pasta and marinara are creamy, just the way she likes it.
If students don’t go to the Crossroads Cafeteria, then they might be seen buying a premade turkey sandwich or the Three Cheese Panini with a Banana Nut Muffin and a freshly brewed cup of coffee from the university Library Café. Freshman Vicky Carrasquillo bought herself a sandwich from the "lib caf" as the students call it, where the first bite fills your mouth with soggy bacon and lettuce, and a plump bun along with the turkey and cheese. She eats it because “there is nothing else and there aren’t too many options,” said Vicky Carrasquillo.
However, Freshman communter, Emilie Stoller, brings her lunch from home, arguing that she just wants ‘cheap food.’ “I get a bagel from Lib Café that costs $1.94, whereas in the CC it’s $1.59, why does it cost more here in the Lib Cade if it’s Sodexo,” said Emilie Stoller, “I want price regularity.”
At first, students might not complain about the food, but (for the most part) with its repetitive choices. It’s hard for the food not to be the main topic for students. Students aren’t limited to just the Crossroads; there is also the CC Café, Lib Café, Charlie T’s, Big Cats Smash n’ Shake, and Subway. However, that still becomes repetitive for students, commuters and residential students alike.
Freshman Ana Coral admits with asour grin that the “food here is okay,” but she would rather see places “like actual restaurant stands, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Paisan" (pizza).
Freshman Gerardo Heredia agrees that the food, is "okay, it’s too simple,” and craves Wingstop's "hot wings with ranch.”
Among other students, freshman Stephanie Cruz admits that “I think there are some vegan friendly things, but not as many as I would like there to be.”
She would prefer to see “a juice or smoothie bar that is affordable. Also tofu substitution for meat for all of the meat products on campus.”
