Ballin On A Budget: 30 Things To Do In NYC
Gray Line

NYC is a central hub for people with vast aspirations. I think it's safe to say most people would love to spend some time there at some point in their life, but it's no lie that it's quite expensive. Whether you plan to go for just a day, a week, or even plan on living there, there is so much to do, especially for those ballin on a budget like your girl right here. Here’s a list of 30 things to do in New York City for free or for very little at all.

1. Walk through Central Park.

2. Go to the High Line.

3. Get a popsicle from People’s Pops.

4. Walk through Chelsea Market.

5. Explore Artists & Fleas in Chelsea Market.

6. Read a book in the New York Public Library

7. Go on the Staten Island Ferry for $12!!

8. Go to the American Museum of Natural History (free from 4:45-5:45pm)

9. Go to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden for free on Tuesdays

10. Go to the Bronx Zoo and pay what you want in Wednesday.

11. Go to the Museum of Modern Art between 4-8 PM for free on Fridays.

13. Spend a day at the Cloisters

14. Rent a Citibike and bike the Hudson River Greenway

15. Go the "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" for free, just register online!

16. Steal fall produce from the Union Square Greenmarket.

17. Go to 79th Street the day before Thanksgiving to watch the balloons get blown up.

18. Go to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

19. Go to "tkts" in Times Square for significantly discounted Broadway tickets.

20. Take the ferry to Governers Island (for $2!!!)

21. Go to Smorgasburg in Brooklyn for unlimited ramen burgers

22. Go to a Drunk Shakespeare show.

23. Get free pizza on November 12th for National Pizza Day.

24. Eat lunch on the steps of the MET.

25. Tour Federal Hall.

26. See Alexander Hamilton's Estate in Harlem.

27. Do yoga in Bryant Park.

28. Watch HBO movies in Bryant Park.

29. Watch sci-fi movies at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

30. Go to Coney Island.

What you can't really do, is go to New York City for a day and experience it all. But saving your money for the time you are spending there while doing a lot of cool different things is a really great way to get started. Additionally, you'll have very toned legs after walking miles, and we all know that's always a plus.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
