How I Balance Sporting Events & Assignments

It's a Thursday afternoon as I am scrambling to get all of the assignments done by my instructors, I am used to getting all of my assignments done in one day, as it is what I am used to. My idea that I have always had since I entered high school is that to get your work done early so that you have time to relax later, especially if there was a big sporting event later that night. For example, Sunday's, Thursday's and Saturday's would always be the nights that I would spend to watch college football or my team on an NFL Sunday.

While last week was my first midterm in college, along with last week being one of the busiest weeks for me since I have arrived at Arizona State, it was a hassle to stay ahead in all of my classes to make sure that I have time to relax. Now if you know me well enough you do know that I have a deep passion for sports, thus no way I would miss myself supporting the Cowboys, Browns, or any major football or basketball game that will be memorable.

Never Procrastinate: This one is pretty obvious, for me and I would hope for you. Procrastination is the single worst habit you can form in my opinion, as it can be toxic in high school as well as in college. My best advice is that if you have an online class and feel confident about moving forward, go ahead and work until you are done with that section/topic and reward yourself with a break. It will be a giant weight lifted off of your shoulders once you have that done and relax the day later, even if you have a show you really are edgar to watch, along with getting a fair amount of sleep each and every night as well.

Plan & Be Organized: In college I quickly realized that being organized will be your best friend through college and in being an adult. The healthiest trait that I have picked up is that to plan out your morning or work you have to do by buying a planner or writing down all the chores you need to do on a post it note. This is extremely effective for me as it helps me notice how much I have to do and motivates myself that the sooner I get this specific assignment finished, the sooner I get lunch or watch the big game later on that evening. Just keep in kind that to take breaks, drink water, and to be sure that you have done a adequate job on your assignments if you do want to watch a show, game, or just simply have time for yourself.

Stay Motivated: I know that it may be difficult on some days to stay motivated and to have that drive and to finish that complicated assignment, but set goals for yourself. For example what I do is to treat myself out to 15 minutes on my phone, as then it is quickly back to work. Another use of this is getting food, ice cream, or remembering why you do all of this work in the first place. Setting goals for yourself is a great way to be driven towards your objective. Staying motivated is key if you want to have time to relax and unwind for the night.

Finally, these three things help me the most in staying ahead and motivated in all of my classes at ASU. I hope that I gave delightful insight on what helps me stay ahead in my classes so that I can watch football, basketball, hockey, or just simply a show that I have been dying to catch up on for the past week. Stay safe and healthy!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
