People leave, war occurs, relationships are broken, people die, and bad things happen. Bad things happen and we are left to suffer. We spend nights screaming into a pillow, crying our eyes out until our face hurts, and burn with a fiery anger that can't be diffused with anything. The suffering takes over our hearts and can easily destroy our joy. Joys that once seemed so sweet become terribly bitter. If God, the God of the universe, loves us as much as He says He does, then why does He let bad things happen? Why do we have to suffer? Why do we have to experience this pain?
This is the number one question that we all want answered. We all want the pain to go away and would do anything for a smile or a moment of pure joy in the midst of the darkest. The darkest clouds the light and peace that once seemed unstoppable. As if nothing could ever cloud our judgement and delude our peace. But time after time, the darkest seeps through and the darkest clouds of sky. You toss and turn and become angry, frustrated, and bitter towards everything. You scream, you cry, you sob, and you have no words to say other than, "why?"
That's the millon dollar question: "why?" We all ask and we all seek for the answer and sometimes we find that answer, but most times we don't.
Romans 5:8 says that "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this; while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Even though we were dirty and filthy with selfishness and the righteousness of ourselves, Christ still died for us - for you. We deserved death, and we will always deserve that price, but Jesus, sweet Jesus, brought Himself to the cross in our place so we could experience the joy of a life with Him. So all this pain and suffering is ultimately what we deserve, but Jesus bridged that gap between sin and an abundant life so we could have a full life with Him. Wipe your tears and know that Christ's suffering was so much greater than whatever you are going through. You don't have to go through this alone, you can go to Jesus. What's the worst that can happen?
