Philadelphia has many coffee shops that people go to. From famous national names to shops only in Philadelphia, the city, has a lot of coffee shops to grab a warm drink on the coldest days!

1. Saxby's

With locations on Liacouras Walk at Temple University and at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, Saxby’s is the perfect place to grab a quick coffee on the way to class or job/internship. There are even more Saxby’s locations in Philadelphia and its surrounding region. The Saxby’s at Temple is also a great place to meet up with friends between classes. Saxby’s offers a variety of beverage options, from hot and iced coffee to smoothies, making it an ideal stop for people with varying tastes and preferences. This coffee shop also sells snacks to go with your choice beverage. Saxby’s takes credit cards.

2. Starbucks

While Starbucks is a national brand, it is very popular in Philadelphia. There is a Starbucks in Temple University’s Tech Center, as well as throughout Philadelphia. The Tech Center Starbucks is the perfect place to meet friends to study. Like Saxby’s, Starbucks offers a variety of beverages and snack for all tastes and preferences.

3. Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin Donuts is a national brand, and there are multiple shops throughout Philadelphia. The location at Jefferson Station is the most accessible for Temple University students. It is a great place to grab a drink on the way to a job or internship in the city since it is located at a train station. Dunkin offers a variety of beverages for all preferences. Dunkin also has donuts that can be purchased with the coffee.

4. La Colombe

La Colombe is located in Rittenhouse Square, Independence Mall, Dilworth Plaza, and Fishtown in Philadelphia, with other locations in New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago. It is perfect for both those wanting to sit down and relax and those wishing to grab a cup of coffee and go. If you order your coffee to sit in, it gets served in a painted cup with cool designs! La Colombe takes credit cards. The atmosphere is cool and almost hipster and the store is oftentimes very busy.

5. Richie's


While it is known for its food, Richie’s is one of the most popular places on Temple’s campus to get coffee. This famous place is located on Polett Walk. Richie’s offers plain coffee (with cream and sugar if desired) at a college-friendly cost. Iced coffee is also available in hazelnut, caramel, and French vanilla. Richie’s also has breakfast sandwiches that are served all day and lunch/dinner options for those who may not be breakfast fans. Richie’s takes credit/debit cards, no minimum required.

6. Old City Coffee

Old City Coffee is located in Reading Terminal Market. It is a convenient place to take a break from exploring the large market. This shop features several coffee drinks as well as other warm drinks. Old City Coffee also offers café food options and ice cream. The prices are a little lower than the national names.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
