Why Audrey Hepburn is inspiring.

In a world where many young women look up to those celebrities like the Kardashians, I think we, as young women, need to look up to more people who inspire us to be better versions of ourselves, instead of others who don't inspire us to be the best people we can be. In my personal opinion, Audrey Hepburn is one of those celebrities that I believe young women should aspire to be like.

1. She used her celebrity for good

During her life, Audrey Hepburn supported many causes and charities. She donated to charities such as UNICEF, and her own charity, created in 1994, the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund. The causes that she supported were abuse, children, education, health, human rights, poverty, and slavery and human trafficking. When she was asked about her work for Children's Charities she said, “I speak for those children who cannot speak for themselves, children who have absolutely nothing but their courage and their smiles, their wits and their dreams.”

2. She was humble

Audrey Hepburn grew up in Brussels, Belgium. Although Audrey grew up in Belgium, she had British citizenship, so she went to school in England. When World War II started, her father decided to move to her and her family in the Netherlands. He thought it would be safer. But unfortunately, the Nazi's ended up occupying Holland. She ended up enduring many hardships while living there. But after the war, she ended up taking ballet lessons in Amsterdam and London. Eventually, she became a model, and then an actress.

3. She was "classy"

Audrey Hepburn was considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. Yet, she did not need to dress provocatively to be labeled a beautiful woman. She used her natural beauty. One of Audrey Hepburn quotes reveals how she feels about "sex appeal." “There is more to sex appeal than just measurements. I don’t need a bedroom to prove my womanliness. I can convey just as much sex appeal, picking apples off a tree or standing in the rain.” She is saying that true "sex appeal" comes from a woman being confident with who she is.

Audrey Hepburn is a remarkable woman who did amazing things beyond her acting career. She was a woman who faced many hardships and obstacles, but still was able to be true to herself and who she was. I think a lot of women could use her philosophy of being true to themselves, and who they are. Audrey was also an optimistic person in the face of her hardships. She believed that you can find happiness in the smallest of things. I think we as women could look up to someone with so much grace, charisma, and optimism as Audrey.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
