1. Having previous singing experience doesn't really matter.
You can join an a cappella group whether you've sung in a choir for 10 years or have never sang anywhere except your shower. It's the perfect way to continue (or start) your personal musical involvement.
2. Rehearsals are one of the best stress relievers known to man.
Even if you end up realizing that having a three-hour rehearsal the night before an exam (that your music director won't let you skip), those hours away from your desk will give you some time to clear your head and something else to focus on.
3. You get to be competitive in a (somewhat) unaggressive manner.
Whether it be talent shows, competitions or campus rivalry, being in an a cappella group allows members to show their competitive side without tossing a ball around.
4. You'll start relating to Pitch Perfect 10 times more than you did before.
If you thought you were Fat Amy's twin before joining an a cappella group, wait until you practice your first round of group choreography. You'll be wishing you took your cardio workouts seriously, too.
5. It's a great way to be more involved on campus.
Joining an organized group on campus (especially in your freshman year) will automatically help you meet more people, see more places and ultimately do more things. If you want to go the extra mile, you can also land a leadership position within the group or try to arrange pieces for the group to perform.
6. The people in your group will undoubtedly become your family.
The people in your a cappella group are the people who will always have your back, no matter what the situation may be. They're the people you can call on at 2 in the morning to help you get out of a sticky situation and the ones you'll be watching "The Emperor's New Groove" with the day before a huge competition. You'll spend hours upon hours with them and (somehow) never get sick of them, and you'll cry when the seniors and fifth years graduate. They're a group of people that you won't be able to imagine your life without once they're in it.
7. It'll end up being the best decision you've made in your entire college career.
Being in an a cappella group consumes your life. You're either talking about it, thinking about it or physically doing group-related activities. And you won't regret a single second of it, because the experiences you'll have and the people you meet will become indispensable.
