So, this week I planned to write my article about trends we can look forward to in 2017. As I was looking at trends and picking out my favorites, I was also watching Minimalism: A Documentary. It’s basically about finding true happiness with less things. One of the topics they touched on was fast fashion. As a fashion major, this really hit home for me. I’m extremely intrigued with fashion and its ever-changing forms, but it’s simply not sustainable.
Society and the media pressure us to stay on trend. It's truly impossible to keep up. As consumers, we believe we’re in need of the latest and greatest thing. Our fashion consumption is at an all-time high, with our resources dwindling. Essentially, we are always wanting more, never reaching satisfaction.
I have decided to embark on a new project: Project 333. This experiment was popular around 2010, so you may have heard of it. Basically, you wear only 33 items in your closet for the next three months, including clothing, accessories, jewelry, shoes, and outwear. This does not include any sentimental pieces that you wear on a daily basis, sleepwear, loungewear, underwear, or clothes that you wear when working out.
I’ve got a closet full of clothes. I could
probably wear something different every day for a year. I am a lover of
fashion, but this is simply unnecessary. As a broke college student with dreams
of going abroad, I think that financial outcome of this project is going to be
extremely positive for my life overall. So, I’m going to go through my closet and
pick out my 33 most favorite things. This might be easy for some people, and
that’s awesome. For me, it’s going to be a challenge, but one that I am looking
forward too. I’m always perceived being about to create trendy outfits with
timeless pieces as a sign of having great style. I encourage anyone to try
project 333 and see what it can do for your life. It's the beginning of a new
year, and the perfect time for me to make a change.
